Look here is real simple. A schools job is to get you a license. Your trainer at the first company is goint o teach you to drive, the school just gets you ready to be taught.

Getting a job after school is not a deciding factor, 95 percent of the companies will hire you right out of school.

Another thing the money for the first year is going to suck, keep that in mond.

I've talked my parents and my gf and they both support which is good. I dont have kids, that's why I'm trying to do otr now. As bad as this may sound if it doesn't work with my gf (but I hope it dose work with her) while I'm on the road it probably wasn't meant to be and I have to do what I have to do to start a carrier because to me driving a truck won't be just a job.

Son you're gonna loose that girlfreind faster than you thought possible. Unless she's riding with you, that's not gonna change. Even if she's running with you, still a good likelihood. See, there's this thing called "diesel in the blood." When I first heard of it, I shrugged it off with the likes of running with no panties on, or legends of DOT ticketing for not having your bed made. Fact is, before I got into trucking, I had plans to work a steady 9-5 desk job in a nice IT office pulling down good money, house in the burbs and a few kids and a minivan. I remember the day all that changed.

I drove across 160 in CO, from Walsenburg to Alamosa for a raw potato pickup during spring thaw. Roads were clear, mountain pass was still covered in snow. It was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen. The whole trip was a ###### thing of beauty. I knew, I KNEW- right then, all I wanted to be for a ###### good long while; was to be a trucker. I got that diesel in the blood.

I'm local...for now...It suckssssssssssss...Hate my job more every day. Hanging on for my boss who just had a newborn introduced to the family. Otherwise I'd be in a sleeper faster than you could say, "Imagine."

Fact is, if this job stirs a bone in your body, you're screwed. In the best way possible, you're screwed.
Having no strings attached is a major perk, though.

Heres what I told my son who is on his last month at CRST (not necessarily a recommendation statement of fact).

Get in it, knowing this first job is just to accomplish a goal. Also know after the first year you can get a job with a local company making 55K+ and be home every night if you choose.

Be a tightwad, save every penny you can while watching your health. Trust your instincts, do not let anyone tell you you have to do anything you think is wrong or unsafe, period. Alway keep enough money available to get home, in the bank is fine.

Be safe, God Bless. Oh yea rolling a truck sucks, dont do it.
