    We are considering purchasing our first semi & are looking at a 2001 Volvo VN64T770 - please tell me the good, the bad & the ugly about these trucks.

    Stay away from the Volvo Engine and Eaton Auto-tragic Transmission. If you're looking to buy a older truck, look for a 12.7 Detroit Series 60 or a Cummins N14 with a Manual Transmission, you'll have less problems and your wallet will thank you every month.

    My last was Volvo 770/D60 2001; I rebuilt the Detroit D60 motor after 500k ; sold it in "07 ;a friend of mine got a new 2001 Volvo 660 with Volvo D12, he has now 1.8 mil miles on original motor, last year he opened the top 1st time and replaced 1 injector, still running the truck, mostly flat roads, from ON to Texas; from what I know the Volvo D12 is better than D60 and N14 in fuel economy;
