I called a few truck companies and I am really considering IN THIS ORDER 1) CCC, 2) SOUTHEASTERN, 3)SAIA... I WOULD CONSIDER AAA COOPER BUT THEY ARE SAYING I NEED MORE EXP... CAN U GUYS GIVE ME SOME IDEAS ON SOME COMPAINES AND THE COMPAINES I HAVE IN MY TOP 3... as I stated before I need to be local !!!

I live in FL too, and did not find any local job that does not ask for at least 1 year experience so you gonna have to do the OTR or be very lucky, maybe a dedicated might be a choice.
-
Wow. How do guys go to school and expect to get a local job without paying their dues by going OTR at first? Actually I don't even think you could do OTR at 21. Need to be 23.
pattyj Thanks this. -
Good luck with that, and your top 3, Do-not and I mean do not go with CCC, the other 2 are fine, but unless you have at least 1 yr exp it will be very hard if not in possible to find a big truck job, a local job, meeting your requirements until you have at least 1 yr exp-----its the insurance -the cost- to cover you as a newbie with no exp.
And if you do find a local company that would be willing to hire you with no-exp, most likely you will be driving a run down, broken truck with maybe no a\c, and very low pay, because you have not proven your self to anyone behind the wheel yet.
The other snake in the grass is, your driving record, current driving record, there had better be nothing on it at all, and I mean nothing! No speeding, no warnings, no DUI (for you at this age ever!), no accidents (no matter who's fault it was) nothing!
One person had a good point, and try the beer distributor company's in your area, they might give you a break, but you will work .
And last, do not expect to make a living unless your standards are low, you may not make what you think you should, most of the time no-exp = low pay and crappie equipment and most likely ###### hours, because the guys with exp are looking for the same job you said you want and you have no-exp.
Good luck and I mean it.Last edited: Apr 20, 2014

Why didn't you do your homework before starting school? You're not going to find a local driving job.
-
Your age may preclude you more than anything. Get your hazmat and tanker endorsements and go talk to every gas company in town. Most require experience, but you may get lucky and find one that needs a driver and is willing to take a chance.
Also check with beverage distribution companies. -
biggest problem you all think that you are going to get cdl and make tons of money without saccrifing anything. truth is getting into this starting out can be a very lonely business. now say you have to go otr for experience what happens if (god forbid) your baby or wife has serious medical problems and u r 1000 miles away?
-
have u considered trying to find a local yard dog job? not as much money but you will get a lot of experience docking and manuvering..
