Id say you will probably have to reconsider your options. I cant think of one company that would allow an infant to ride with you due to safety reasons. A child that small would be too distracting in a tractor trailer. One bad move you, the child and maybe a lot of other people could be killed.
Thinking of becoming a trucker-need liberal rider program

I'm gonna have to jump on the bandwagon here. You're gonna keep a two year-old penned up in a truck all day, then trust him not to run around screaming towards the moving trucks in a truck stop parking lot while you've got your hands full with laundry and shower supplies?
You didn't give this a whole lot of thought, did you?Moving Forward Thanks this. -
while I agree with everyone here, I would also add on her behave that in her post she said she had no experience or knowledge about trucking. Thats the reason she ask, At least she is trying to figure out someway to support herself and her son without assistants from the govt. bad idea "yes" need for chastising "no"
SemperFiServices, TruckDuo, KF7WTV and 7 others Thank this. -
Not a driver yet, but I have raised a kid by myself. Some here have been pretty harsh with you. Like streetglider said, you deserve credit for trying to figure out a positive situation - but this isn't it. As a parent, you are asking too much of your child - to sit in a car seat for 11 hours per day isn't right.
FYI - If I was going to pick an age, two would probably be the worst possible age to begin this plan.Lux Prometheus Thanks this. -
Companies can not and should not be in the positon to make parental decisions... so the question shouldnt be is there a company that would allow a 2 year on board... the question should be do I as a single mother think that taking my child along is in the best intrest of my childs health and well being.. then browse through this website, check out the accident thread.. see how quick and easy things can happen and go horribly wrong.. by being a truck driver because hou are on the road more your chances of being in an accident are higher... the person wbo buys 100 loto tickets has a greater chance of winning than the person who buys 1 ticket... also, as a truck driver you have a greater probability of seeing a horrific accident even if not involved.. and not just a crunched car off to the side.. but bodies being attended to, body bags on the side of the road... do you want your childe exposed to that..
Also keep in mind, trucking is not a social job.. you are alone most of your day with little interaction with others.. so you will be hindering your childs development as he/she will not get to socialize with others which is an important part of a childs development... so again, ask yourself.. what is in the best interest of your child..
There are more parents of todlers who you could not pay enough to have them willing to take their toddler who are in the most important developmental stage if their life on the road... so I would be concerned about a parent who would be willing to do it for the training wage most new drivers earn..
If you are homeless or in a bad relationship and need to escape there are much better and safer ways to do it then getting I to trucking... -
Well I am neither homeless or in a bad relationship. I have a friend that is a driver and he makes 3 times the amount I make, and I have a degree. It is just my son and I, and we went with him a couple of times. My son did ok while we went. Is it an ideal situation, no. I was thinking in terms of money and saving for his future.
KF7WTV, Lux Prometheus and x#1 Thank this. -
Your motivation is right on. While your son may have done well with 2 adults in the truck, consider that if you are the only other person in the truck your attention while driving will have to be 100% on your driving. In my experience 2 year olds do require plenty of attention.... actually, they DEMAND plenty of attention.
However, your son may be one of those that are fairly "self entertaining" and can be happy doing their thing for long periods of time. If so, then power to you.
The real challenge would then be whether you could find a company that would allow you to take your son on the road with you. Insurance coverage will be a major factor and many customers do have age requirements.Lux Prometheus Thanks this. -
You don't seem to want to absorb the advise you are being given.
CPS will be called - 100% of folks trying to help are dead set against it. Buckled in for 11 hours with only the variety of a truck stop to look forward to at the end of the day? Your child will not grow up right if you do this. Kids need to run around, scream, yell, and play with other children on a daily basis. Playing kick the pee bottle and find the condom in the parking lot do not count.
I wish you all the best in raising your child on your own, but please reconsider this.Rugerfan Thanks this. -
Very timely of you Lepton - lol.
