Throw out some names of companies on those 25 apps.... we can tell you of our experiences or opinions.... Like stay away from Prime, the trucks only go 62 mph and bugs that hit the windshield don't die right away but suffer before they do, and you don't want that on your conscience..:biggrin_2552:

Hehe, if you were the computer wiz I was youd know concieling your identity online is next to impossible and requires MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH more effort than you think. I will never be scared to post my name. And I run open SSH ports on my computer 24/7. I am not scared to be hacked.

As for your trucking advice... Thanks, I didnt know there wasnt a 16speed... :S and I guess your the second one to say I should pay for my own CDL so maybe ill try harder to find the money... Im really really poor and about to be kicked out on the road as a homeless man. But i will read into how I can get some kind of loan for this. I am here for advice arnt i?

Edit: Sorry for sounding rude about the computer stuff...

Mr. Latham, you are one strange dude and you'll fit in just fine. :)

Check into Prime or CRST. I think they train people to get their CDL.

This is very important. So listen carefully. Do Not Sign Up For A Company Lease Ever !

Good luck on your journey !

BTW: How old are you ?

    These are easy...... NO !!!!!!!!!!!

Look into Millis.....good equipment and training program along with cdl school.

If you are going to do company training they would be one of the better ones.

There are several companies out there that you should definatly avoid, as they have a terrible (and well deserved) reputation for less than adequate training and wages. I think most on this forum would agree that you should NOT sign any kind of contract with C.R. England, CRST, or Western Express.

Some that have better reputations are Millis Transfer, Roehl, Watkins Shepherd, Prime, and Maverick. I have not personally worked for any of these, so I have no direct knowledge of how their CDL training programs work. My first driving job was with Stevens Transport. They do have a CDL school, but I did not use it. I scrimped and saved and paid for a private school so I would not be going in under any kind of contract. And they did reimburse me for the majority of the cost. I was happy with Stevens as a first company. Their OTR training program (that's when you go out on the road with a trainer after acquiring a CDL) is first rate. I found them to be honest when it comes to payroll. And, they kept me rolling and making money.

There is no perfect starter company out there. All will have pros and cons, but it's a foot in the proverbial door and once you get some experience much better operortunities will become available to you. Good luck

    Ok you are person #3.

I just closed all my browser tabs and am opening new ones looking for CDL schools. But I have only 3 weeks to get this done I think. You think if I spend 15 hours+ every day on this that I can have a CDL in 3 weeks (asuming I find the money, which I dont think i will)

EDIT: I bookmarked this page and also jotted down all the companies that were recommended and frowned down upon on my phone too. Thanks to everyone you might not even realise it but you probably saved me a very tortured future with a bad company. TY!
