Drivers leave for all sorts of reasons, but a big one for GTI is the change they are going to face. One of the big issues: there's a good chance some of the guys who've been hanging on to a job and not actually working should be a little worried. First thing any company gets rid of?? DEAD WEIGHT. And there is a lot of it at Gordon. Tow and I discussed this at length. First thing they should do is get rid of the TV sets and the reclining chairs. That'll stop some of that BS. There are a hell of a lot of "entitled" steering wheel holders there. No. They aren't drivers. A driver can get some work done. Don't get me wrong, not all of them, but a good number is like that. Gordon held their hand and played pat-a-cake when they did stupid crap.

I said to Jim Pittman "bet you're glad I'm not completely retarded like some of them". Just kinda laughed and agreed. I said it because I was supposed to take a load from Medford up to Washington. Load never showed up. The driver was there. Load wasn't. Dude was supposed to take a loaded trailer from the Sacramento yard to me in Medford. He brought an empty trailer. All the way to Medford. When I called night dispatch after driving around the lot ( Medford is small) for 30 minutes and then walking it twice, they told me the trailer was there. I said, "No, it's really not here". They didn't believe me until somebody checked the yard in Sacramento and saw the trailer, then I get a message that I didn't have to deliver the load because the trailer really wasn't there.

This isn't an odd occurrence. This happened to me a few times. I saw so many steering wheel holders content with doing the bare minimum, just to keep the job, possibly for a roof over their head. You'd think some of them would be running for the doors. Nope. After years of having their hands held, they wouldn't know how to be a truck driver. They need to be told what route to take, where to fuel, where to stop and go to the bathroom. They are happy with a truck sitting in a shop for 3-4 days. That means they can chill with their other moron friends and tell stories about how they are great drivers. Some of them are in for a rude awakening, and it almost makes me sad that I won't be there to see it. Heartland does fire drivers. Yeah well. I need to make money. And since I started back here on Thursday, I made $1100 over the weekend. I know, I should take my "Learn how to work, kid" motto and stuff it. Hey HeartofaTrucker, you're losing the best GTI drivers. Might want to try to put a plug in that real quick.

It was almost one year ago that I started in investigating Gordon as a possible employer. I can't remember how I managed to "find" them, other than recalling seeing their nice, blue trucks occasionally while I was running my regional routes, but the one thing I do recall was not being at all interested in Heartland Express. I did check them out, as I did many mother OTR companies, but one look at their equipment quickly crossed them off 'the list.'

I would never have predicted things progressing as quickly as they seem to have in the past 4 months. But I never sat in the executive suite or met either CEO, either. No matter what any Missionary-spy tells us, Gordon Trucking will be a very different place by the end of the year, I think.

Well I hope that things work out for some of us. This is my second job in 18 years and I hate to be a job jumper but as I told the DM I have over 30 years driving and no points or accidents on my record. I dont think It will be hard to find another job.

There is a lot of things this job has going for it. The biggest is running legal. No worries about overweight or running over logs. Things do get fixed even if you have to be a #### to get it done. When things have not gone to plan I have not been left in the cold. I still get breakdown, Layover, Dentition pay. and load bonuses. We will see what things bring...........

I do too, GH. Left to me, I would never have left this company - or any company - like I did. There will be struggles but if you keep looking for the positive aspects of it, I'm convinced you'll find them.

Whoa!! Just look at this place...

Looks like most everyone left and no one cleaned up after. Lights out but the door's not locked. Doesn't look like anyone's been by for a while, a month or more. Sheesh! You know, I just thought I'd peek in, see what was stirring here--if anything.

And there's not much stirring. Greyhound, of course, probably still carrying a blue torch. Good for him.

Well, I guess the adventure party's over for a while--at least this Gordon adventure. Reminds me of one part party room for the losing candidate after he made his concession speech, one part movie theater where the ushers went on strike at the end of the last feature and didn't clean up all the popcorn and candy wrappers, one part museum, one part mausoleum--like some old tomb to a long-faded empire.

Dunno if this empire's striking back any time soon but I see them on the road all the time and those smurf blue trucks still look good, really good, in fact--even when pulling a Heartland trailer. Haven't seen a Heartland truck pulling a GTI trailer, though. It could happen. Sure it could!

    Oh, look there!

A mouse just crawled out from somewhere and made off with a left over piece of popcorn...

Apparently the adventurers have moved on but the slogans are still up on the wall, once bright, now tattered banners--one about learning how to work and the other about keeping that left door shut. Tut, tut. It's all King Tut now.

    Dead and dusty.

Ha-ha. Someone scribbled a note on the wall below one of the banners--about sour grapes. Now what's THAT all about, I wonder? Well, where ever the adventure kids are, certainly it's only lousy drivers that ever disagree with 'em... ;0)

    Right toe!!

Yes, Colour Sergeant! And now for some defecation and mirth; check out the Conway Truckload crew and groove on the goings on. Now there's some happy folk.
Remember the names. Grab the dog tags. I'll flip ya' for whoever gets the duty of notifying their next o' kin when nobody is left standing months from now.
