I am new to the "trucking world" and am curious about how many truckers have internet on the road? Laptops, Palms or a BlackBerry? How is the service? And finally does the company pay for the internet or do we have to?
Thanks for humoring a newbie![]()
How Many have one...?

I don't think anyone's ever done a survey of how many drivers are netheads, but the number is definitely growing.
Me, I run a cheap Acer laptop with a Verizon broadband card(I didn't want to be dependent on truckstop WiFi--what're you gonna do when you're sitting at a customer?). VZW broadband runs $60/mo, is just about as fast as my home cable modem and works anywhere you can get anything resembling a cell signal--and sometimes when your cell is incommunicado!
I can't believe I waited so long. I'm really happy with the investment so far. -
I am a new driver. During training I had my laptop, but relied on wifi. Lack of security and the pita of trying to find a hotspot convinced me to get a Millinicom aircard before coming hitting road again.
To my knowledge, not many, if any, company pays for internet service (possibly through sat communication?). I do, however, think it may be a tax deduction. -
Of course, I'm a person who doesn't even have a television onboard either. Although I watch it a lot while home.
The service, when I used it, was poor at most truck stops. And, I'm not paying $60 a month for an aircard service. -
I'm not a trucker yet but the setup that I have for when I get out there is a Tmobile Blackberry Pearl and my Compaq laptop. The phone service is about $40 and true unlimited Internet is $19.99. Some companies say it is unlimited but it isn't actually, Tmobile is truly unlimited. Just connect to your laptop with the included USB cord which also charges and follow some simple instructions that can be easily found online and you have internet any where with a cell signal and phone service for only $60 a month.

I sure apprecitate the feedback ~ maybe I should of posted it like a survey ~ not sure how to do that though. It would be a great way to price the best plans and service.
Sixty is alot of money, with gas prices and all going up too...
Maybe someone will create a new plan especially for truckers - one can hope!! -
I have a Millenicom card sitting at home waiting for me. For the last 6 months my iPhone has been my main web browser/Email client.
