Hello Prime drivers. Something about trucks caught my attention and made me become interested. I do love driving and traveling and I guess thats one of the reason why I became interested. I did my research on training companies I wanted to start off with, but seems like Prime would be the best choice for me to start off with because their training is long (3-4 months), have a higher training pay than most training companies ($600 a week) offer better benefits than other starter companies, nice equipment and APU, their starting pay is .42cpm ( not included fuel bonus, etc. ), average miles are 2200-2800 a week and got 3 divisions to work for. Their lightweights seem a little uncomfortable but it wont be a problem as long as I'm driving solo but If it wasn't for college I would of join their lease program. My plan now is I'm working on to get my CDL Class A permit with all the endorsements, go to a local trucking school in the summer to get my CDL, and then as soon as I turn 21 next year on March 20th, I would send a application in. Im only trying to get 1-2 years experience in the reefer division, then go find a local tanker job or any other if I cant find a local tanker, and work local and go to continue on with college because I'm just trying to get a 6-8 year degree, and also get knowledge on computer engineering, mechanic, aviation, electricity, and technology. After I accomplish my goals, I don't know if I would return back but I don't really think so. If after my first year if everything still going good for me, I would stay for another year. I just need the experience, save some money and also get the chance to build up my credit. I got no experience in driving tractor trailers, and the only experience I have in driving trucks is a 26ft straight truck with auto transport trailer on it. Drove 3 times from Florida to Georgia. I drive a manual transmission car so I'm not worried about the shifting. Only thing I'm worried about is getting hired. I got no accidents or tickets and a good record but by the time I hit 21, I will only be able to provide 2 years of work history and when I come in, I will have a CDL in hand, I wanted to know if this could be a issue of getting hired ?

Why not go to their tanker division. It will make getting that local tanker job easier because you have experience with tanks.

Oh. If they do then go for it. If they don't then do reefer for a year and switch over. I am not too sure but Indian River may train drivers and they are a tank company. Also, look into ltl companies that train. They are local or overnight and pay well.

Yes Christopher they start you from scratch from learning how to shift to going across country, if you don't traveling and being on the road Prime will get you the experience you need, they are very safety orientated and professional.
They keep the best equipment and you can make good money without leasing also, as a company driver with a little experience you can train and take home a easy $1000 a week average. If you would like to know more details send me a private message.

As a matter of fact, I would recommend tanker, they are more in demand, and the pay is top of the scale.

I would like to forewarn you that every company big or small has some issues, but I must say that if you want good solid training, and the best equipment go with Prime. You will hear some negative things about them, but, they are among the best in the industry hands down, you wont have to worry about getting stopped at the scale house they run electronic logs and they pre-plan you so your loads are timed to your logs.

Remember, trucking is what you make of it.
Prime does have its issues, but as said all companies have issues.

And yes, they make fun of Prime trucks going very slow sometimes 55mph or 62 mph for company trucks, but who makes more a truck going 55mph at 42 cents per mile or a CRST, or England truck going 65 mph @ 26 cents to 28 cents.
