i just started with roehl and let me say im very happy with them so far. this company has gone out of its way to help me a few times (which is more than i can say for werner)im going into the van divsion and dont know anything about there reffer but i think you will be happy with this company.
if you go to the ellenwood terminal just beware that it is small but everyone is helpful and nice. all the trucks look to be in great condition even the training truck which you will do a backing and driving test on the first day of orientation. enjoy yourself and hope to see ya out on the road.

Driver, if you have been driving for 14 years, why would you look to work for a company that is known for training people? Have you read any of the posts in here from EXPERIENCED drivers? Unless you want to train the "newbies", as you call them, you could do better elsewhere, IMHO.

On another note, he could also work for one of the safest fleets which has many drivers with well over a million miles. They may be known for their training, but it's not all they do here. The other night, I had dinner with a Roehl driver who had been with the company about 30 years. I always found it pretty amazing that a company that takes on so many people that have NEVER driven and still gets such an excellent safety rating, surpassing Wal-Mart's safety rating, even though they only hire on experienced drivers.

No its not normal. I have never dropped a student like that. Why weren't you dropped in Dayton? Was someone supposed to pick you up? I wish they would just go back to the old way of training 20 days in a row with no home time. If they can't hack it, too bad. It sure was a lot less complicated. This shuttling students around seems more like a taxi service than a trucking company. At least a taxi would have got you all the way home though. I usually recommend students to just stick it out and do it in one shot.

I just finished up 20 days strait. I opted not to go home though. Now I get to spend the night in Ellenwood and wait for a ride North to test out.

Actually its 150 miles. I have never seen it come to that though. Arrangements can usually get made. I dropped a student in Gary, In and Roehl rented him a car to get him home to Maine. Some thing isn't being told here. Maybe he was supposed to have a ride there. The ride didn't show and then he wanted a cab or something.

Tks. No I had no idea that I would have been just dropped off. If so I could have made better arrangement for both me and my car. I too made a mistake thinking that they would have dropped me off back at my car. Loads do past dayton daily im sure.? I could have transfered trucks many time to get to dayton. Now I have the luxury of trying to find someway to get to dayton to retrive my personnal vehicle. I should have know as long as it doenst cost Rohel more money its ok.. What was I thinking.! Im not expecting preferential treatment. I guess I will have to work out some different strategy for evo II. like meeting my next instructor in Gary since I was there 3 times during evo I. That should be an easy out.? lol. Im flexable.

No, I really didnt have any say in it. The DSR made the decision.? Which I did talk to the dsr on the phone. and his reply was Im sure you can work it out. Well luckly I did get it worked out, but it was by mear luck too.
I guess the good thing was they didnt drop me in Gary or Ellenwood. I will make precise arrangement before strarting evo II so we can all be happy. Maybe. If not, I do still have options.

No argument there. They are the safest fleet. My thinking was more towards the meticulous control Roehl exerts over their drivers, perhaps in comparison to what a 14 year veteran may be accustomed. Also, the turnover rate is very high with large carriers, and for a reason. A smaller company or perhaps one without such a rigid driver regiment would be my focus. I'm hope he knows what he is getting into.
I have met drivers from companies that get lambasted here that have been there for 10 or more years. I suppose that some have a higher tolerance for rubbish than I do. But by and large most of the people you see driving for any large company will be replaced within the next 12 months. Prove me wrong.
