I Have been a Cdl A driver for 5 + years. I have driven for Lumber companys. and for Coors as a beer driver.
that being said. I have never filled out a log. I know how. but since i never run over 12 hours and never leave the state. I have no logged hours.
Is this going to be a problem if I decide to go OTR now.
Am I going to have to go to school?
Just wondering what i should put on my application.

Excuse me??? Where do you drive? Rhode Island???

If you travel outside a 100 miles radious of your terminal, you MUST run logs.

Put the truth on your app, or you won't get a job.

Not true. Each state has their own rules.

In Illinois, it is 150 miles as long as you don't leave the state.

In Missioui I drive a Beer truck - delivery

I drive out of the same warehouse daily. I don't drive futher than 100 miles from it. They asked on the application."How many years experinance I have." I have 5+ in a class A truck so thats what I put.but i was worried that since I have no logs from the last 5 years.
    Will they count?

Most likely, they will require you to run 2nd seat for a couple of weeks. But, yes they'll accept that as experience. Just not OTR experience.

For all intents, you have no OTR experience. That's the way they will look at it.

Your not having OTR experience may make a difference in whether some companies will hire you. But there certainly are companies out there that would jump at somebody with your experience. You just have to decide which one of these might be a fit.

The thing that is funny about this is that an awful lot of OTR drivers want to become local drivers, and an awful lot of locals want to go OTR. I jumped at the chance to get off the road and be home every night. It was a good gig for a little over three years. Due to an injury that keeps bothering me, I can no longer do the heavy work required for local P & D so I have to make the decision to go back to OTR, or to just get out of the business.

Yea, I'm just toying with the idea of going OTR better pay and I Have no kids. I have thought about doing this to get myself out of financal problems. II'm only making about 30k a year and thought the extra income would be nice..the more posts I read though..... I might be looking to another Beer delivery driver position or maybe UPS or FedEx instead some of the posts are making me do alot of rethinking......

Interesting. I drive bus and I do a log book all the time. if I go 100 air miles from my csc or 115 road miles. and when I cross state lines. Which is often, we do lots of charter work.
