From my short experience, all very valid points. Yeah, parking is a major problem. Good trip planning only helps some. In many cases, you have to leave hours on the table to get shut down for the night.
Thinking of getting into trucking? My honest take on the industry.

I agree with what you have to say. Everyone is entitled to there own opinions on life. That's what makes America so great. First I have to say that if you do your homework and aren't afraid to do an honest days work you'll be able to do what you want when you want. Good trip planning and proper dispatch will allow you home time to be there when you need to be. I'm as green as all green horns come but I still get home when I need to. And I'm making the money I want to make. I'm not making a million but it keeps my bills paid and keeps me happy. My better half sees me exactly when she wants to see me and I don't feel the trucking world is a scary place. My opinion is that the people that hate this job need to grow a pair and quit or realize that they can't hack it in one of the toughest industries around. Become an instructor I'm sure you'll be good at that. Those who can do.....those who can't teach. End rant
Wild Murphy and justa_driver Thank this. -
I agree, would love to have the good old days back because in the good old days, you felt like you were accomplishing something and you could be proud without your own company trying to convince you that you were wrong, even though most never drove a truck. Give me the Good Old Days anytime but, sadly, they are gone forever.

I agree, Trucking has never been easy and never will be easy. My only complaint is that theres no reason under the sun why it should get harder, like it has since 1990. Driving trucks with small engines, no air conditioner, manual or air steering, no jake brakes, no apus, no way of communicating, heck Id take all of that back in a minute over what a driver has to put up with today and that's exactly why it is like it is today, because the driver didn't stand up and say enough is enough. I know IM outspoken, and I also know a lot don't like that but fact is, you cant change nothing if you sit back and Say nothing. I still may not change nothing but nobody will ever call me a sheep. Im sorry if people have a problem with that.x#1 Thanks this.

I came across harshly, again, and that was not my intent.I am personally saddened thinking of the changes from over the last decade, not considering the last 25+. Honestly, when do you see 5 trucks pulling over on both sides to check on you if you are on the shoulder? Even i have to make myself(was an automatic response) and assess the situation much more than previous years. Why i ask myself? just stop. help the driver.check on them. skeptical is the key word for me as i type. nothing else comes to mind nor explains not stopping.also those of you not running a cb bothers me as I do ask if a shoulder bound driver needs help or whatever but guess what? no cb therefore no reply. that in and of itself is reason enough to at least install a radio.
anyway, just wanted to peel the callouses back a bit.justa_driver Thanks this. -
