Now that son is becoming a trucker i notice the trucks on our roads more. Yesterday (Sunday) was the first longer freeway trip I took lately. OMG, what a lot of trucks! Never paid attention before. I was driving on 94/294 around Chicago, Made me wonder just how many trucks are out there, anyway? No wonder there's a parking problem! Middle of the day and the lots were full. More power to you truckers!

Actually, the last 12 months, truck movements have exploded. More freight is being handled and moved shorter distances via 1, 2, even 4 different logistics handlers before it ever reaches the final distribution point. Businesses today are learning to work on bare essential inventories and want "just-in-time" delivery to satisfy the immediate needs and this has resulted in the explosion of distribution and logistics warehouses all across the nation leading us to my initial point.

Try being a trucker and dealing with this fact as you're seeking a place to park late in the day at a truck stop. Notice how many of them seem virtually full 24/7 that are on high density routes.

So it sounds like more and more regional and dedicated routes and cutting back on longer OTR routes except maybe in the less populated stretches? I know there are two truck rest areas on the freeways in our state that have been closed in the last few years due to state funding.

Well the more there is movement of trucks makes for a good sign that the economy is getting better. Even though we still have a long way to go.

I think we're up to 3.5 million trucks and still growing to meet the demand.

Not necessarily ... people are going to eat regardless of whether they or their family have a job or not. The economy overall is still anemic at best in terms of supporting a growing number of workers (producers). Not sure that a largely consumer-based economy that is based largely on "government cheese" for so many is one we can really be optimistic about, short term or long term.

20% of "family households" today have NO (ZERO) WAGE EARNERS, full or part time! That is a dismal fact any way you want to consider it.

And the trucking companies still say they don't have and can't get enough qualified drivers.
That's a good thing for those of us currently in this industry........job security out the
wazoo if you can keep your record clean.

Keeping the record clean and being willing to work how we work and get paid how we get paid has always been the key to job security. Lose your job with a clean class A and a year recent experience at noon and if the sun sets on you without another job it's because you took the rest of the day off and didn't bother to look or answer your phone. May not be the one you want but sometimes you do what you have to do til you can do what you want to do. Clean record is the key, though. Muddy water may take a week or two to sort out.
