Howdy folks--I'm headed to Arcelor Mital in East Chicago on Monday to start pulling slinkies back to Livonia Michigan. I would appreciate counsel on securement--8 axle curtainside flatbed with a shallow coil well down the middle. I've only got 4 ratchet straps--I want to know if I can use chains and snap binders only--how to? Never blogged before-- so here goes--any proffessional guidance would be apppreciated--I ran for TMC years ago--so I know the strap methodology--just dont want to go buy straps if I don't have too--my workhorse trailer is a 95 Dorsey 50 foot X 96 in width-7 foot high
coiled rod at East Chicago--securement advice

why not stop before you start. If you don't know what your doing.

What's the weight? Number of pieces?

IF,And only IF the Customer will allow Chains..(many Brokers/Customers are refraining from Chains Now for whatever reason).....
have them Load you Completely first..Dont be a Superhero and Stand on the Trailer Seciuring stuff whuile they are loading you.
Next, Once loaded Build a Chain Bulkhead in the Front and Rear Coil (You'll Need a 20' Chain and 2 binders per Bulkhead)
Once The Bulkheads are Complete you can simply just Chain the coils down in Place or Butterfly 2 coils at a time, You'll Need probably 8-12 Chains depending on how much your getting..Im Assuming
Your Permitted to 60 ton..So maybe 14-16 Coils -
Great info thanks stayin back!! I'm 51k mt--so can take 80k or so--single shotgun down the middle right?? Also--chain bulkhead must mean x chains held in place by ratchet binders-- no 4x4's right. I'm sure I can go in with chains as the coils aren't powdered--- I'll make it happen I'm sure-- thanks for your support -- i do appreciate it. Thanks much- Kirk

I can handle up to 80k or so--thanks for your interest and response!

If they wont let you use chains, most will not because they pull the rod till it is thin like a string an chain will scratch the rod an make it break when pulled out,All that will help you is knowing how many you are picking up, if you can load shotgun will need 5 straps min. over top or pads to cover top where chains go.
