I am curious, I run out of the North Salt Lake OC. I'll be honest, I've rarely run more than 8500 miles a month since starting here, and there have been a few months of sheer sitting due to rolling up to a shipper (Say, Oxnard P&G) and finding the trailer to be DOT OOS. Is anyone else noticing this trend, or am I the only one? Most of what I find are old 93xxxx to 947xxx that have ABS Modules out. Last week, I had one in Denver that was so bad it had no brakes (45000lb load, what fun...). Occasionally I will find tires or brakes out too, but mostly I find these ABS modules and broken airlines. Any advise? Trying to make this career work, but I can't do this if this is the equipment we run. Been here since 6/13. Thanks.

If you've got two yrs experience and a clean DAC, you can get on with a better, smaller company that actually utilizes their drivers and equipment in a more efficient manner. I have never worked for Schneider, but 2k miles per week is terrible under-utilization of assets. Time to move on.

    Moving Forward Thanks this.

The problem is nobody wants to take responsibility for getting the things fixed, so they post trip it as "no defects" and leave it for the next guy to find and run into problems with. Yeah, SNI is probably not going to send mobile service out to replace a burnt out tail light even if you post trip it and mark it with the defect and send in the macro to SEM, but for major stuff like no brakes or a blown-out tire or tandem pins that won't lock, etc., they will get that taken care of. Yeah it sucks because it costs you time.

From what I've seen they're selling off the TA93-TA94 trailers, but there are still some old crappy ones in the fleet. I've got one behind me right now. It has an open work order (probably because it's due for an inspection) and so I brought it through an OC on my route so I can get it looked at tomorrow. Just gotta deal with it some times, from what I've seen (now mind you I don't run the west coast) SNI does a pretty good job at keeping their trailers maintained compared to a lot of the other larger carriers, but if they don't know something is broken they can't send someone out to fix it. Drivers are always gonna be lazy.

sometimes ya just gotta suck it up. I've had weeks where it seems like I was personally responsible for getting every trailer in the fleet repaired, but gotta agree with DFO, if the prior driver actually did the post trip and sent in the mac to get it fixed, we wouldn't have alot of the probs.

That's another one I find a lot. And when it's something you know was the last driver, (Say, Blown tire with no brakes due to a defunct ABS module) Why is it that SNI isn't doing anything to the last driver? I actually ran into a guy who had dropped me an absolute crap trailer. 2 tired flat-spotted, ABS module, 3/4 brakes were DOT OOS. Why did they not, at the very least, reprimand him?

It may not of been the last driver same as when you drop a trailer you have now. Flat spots are usually from yard jockey's when they spin the trailer around if a driver has done it the MCP will have notified his dbl for a hard brake incident and so on. Why not drive as an IC?
