Are you sure your not talking to a lawyer whom is claiming under false pretenses for information that they are not required to get?
-
It does sound like they're fishing to drop you. Did you maybe sign up as a short-haul operation and forget to tell them when you started running longer loads?
-
It doesn't make any difference why they are asking for the bol and logs. It is none of their business. They don't need that information in order to pay a claim. If someone else is at fault, you should be filing a claim with the other person's insurance company. I would not file a claim with my own insurance company if the other guy was at fault. Regardless, I would not provide them with anything. If they give you a problem, find another insurance company and file a complaint with your state insurance regulators.

the ins co guys can be very tricky, don't discuss details of the accident over the phone, they can call and pretend to be anyone, and never consent to be recorded.
your ins co would usually have notified you of this . go to your agent, in person, and have him contact someone and verify who is calling you. why haven't you filed against the other parties insurance???lovesthedrive Thanks this. -
I still want to know the answer to G/MAN' s ?...........who is your ins. Co?

My buddy was involved in a fatality accident and he was not at fault his insurance requested the last 12 months of IFTA reports, 90 days after providing these documents they sent him a cancellation notice. Now that he has a accident report on his safer with fatalities most insurance companies are marking him as high risk.
Most likely your insurance company is trying to get documentation to back up if the others at fault try and make a counter claim. My policy through great West requires me to surrender any documentation in the event of an accident not hundred percent sure what that means but it is in there. Like someone else stated I would not surrender more than the previous seven days of logs that should be all the documentation that they need. -
There in business to do 2 things. Find risk and to make money.

If you are making a claim on the cargo, they sometimes ask for bols to see the average costs of the freight you are carrying. I had a truck last summer that rolled on an off-ramp and the entire load was a claim. It happened to be a hot market for mandarins at the time and the claim was almost $60k. A few weeks before a truck froze load (solid like rocks), although same qty it was Valencia oranges $14k. Same insurance co (travelers), same adjuster, different truck companies. They asked for bols for a month for same customer and all kinds of info. Finally was able to show him usda reports on market to show him pricing was legit.

First and foremost, Insurance Companies are in business to make money, and they do this by paying out the least amount for their claims. Secondly, by raising rates. They look for every reason to increase premiums " high risk". My advice when speaking with anyone is to state facts. Only provide information relevent and never admit liability. Afterall your paying his salary. You are the boss a paying customer. He should be looking out for your benefit, they also play devils advocate. Dont feed into it you can also remind him you could take your business elsewhere.
