Wow. And who says there's no feeling of brotherhood in trucking anymore?

There's very few drivers I'd want a brotherhood with!

That's funny, because during my 5 years as a shuttle van driver, passengers actually commended my driving. And I've never had an accident since I first got my class C in 1996 and have driven well over 250k miles since then. But sure, an anonymous guy on a forum who's never met me, never ridden with me, tells me I must suck at driving because I didn't pass a rigorous, nerve-wracking commercial drive test like the supertrucker he is. Seriously, what kind of comment is that?

And you passed your very first time? Good for you. Thanks for the support and encouragement. I'm glad we're all so supportive and helpful on this forum. But anyway, this is sort of beside the point of my thread.

Right. Who better to judge driving skill than those who know less than nothing about it, because everything they think they know is wrong? "A western state in the US of A." is well known for their excellent drivers.

Complaints from those motorists might be a better indicator of good driving habits.

So... you're the driving equal of my mother.

Accurate. The vast majority of drivers pass the first time, many w/o error.

It appears to me your sole point is that it isn't your fault. You don't need encouragement, or a pity party, you need some knots on your head. You didn't mention any significant number of your fellow students failing.

If your parents wasted $4000, it's your fault. If you think trucking is going to coddle you in the manner to which you appear to be accustomed, you have another think coming.

Pass your test and get out of their house. If you had a better option than truck driving, I like to assume you're smart enough to have taken it.

That sucks man, I'm not sure about your school but you should be able to go back and practice on what you failed. I failed my curve back the first time, I must have banged that thing out 500 times in school no prob. I don't think I was nervous but who knows. Just stay calm. I know basically everything with CA govt is designed toake life hell, you'll get through it.

Gpsman: "The vast majority of drivers pass their first time." Incorrect. In CA, more than half (60-70 percent by some estimates) do not pass the first time.

"You need some knots on your head." WTF is your problem, man?

"It appears to me your sole point is that it isn't your fault." Yes, that is PRECISELY my point. It is in no way whatsoever my fault that the DMV changed my scheduled time without informing my school (who then would inform me) in advance, and that's my main point, not my reasons for not passing.

The majority that attempt the test in CA fail at least once. It's a fantasy to say otherwise.

OP, I failed three times at the San Bernardino DMV. Had to retake the written to finally pass on my fourth attempt. I didn't do the school thing, got my permit and med card on my own and was training OTR with my O/O brother. We couldn't make appointments because we never knew when we would be in town. We went over a dozen times, early in the morning, to try and snag a standby. All this over the course of three months. It was a major hassle, but worth it to get the C DL.

Needless to say, it was very informative to talk to the school instructors and students and watch their attempts to pass the skills test. It was a rare school that passed the majority on a given day.

Seems extremely unlikely... just from a $¢ business standpoint. Running students to and fro multiple times would be grossly inefficient compared to preparing them adequately.

I'd think the state would shut-down any school that repeatedly presented a majority of applicants who couldn't pass the test.

Can you provide a source of that data...?
