DDA....but they are pricey and unnecessarily long.

Thank you for that insight! As a total newbie, wouldn't longer schooling bring more knowledge and confidence?

You would think so....but the problem is that the majority of the training is un-required. They aren't doing it for your benefit, they are doing it for theirs. If I remember correctly, their program is something like 10-12 weeks long. They do that for state and federal funding, not to make you a better driver. Much of their curriculum is filler and fluff.

Get your license from a state licensed school. Let the school teach you how to drive a truck, Let the company you go to work for train you on how to be a truck driver.

Trust me, if you go to work for TMC, they do not want DDA teaching you how to do the job for them.

Im not saying their training isnt good....they seem like a quality school. Theyre just expensive and remember....while you are in school you are not earning money.

Oh, also....I if remember, their other locations are normal 3-4 week programs....better choices. It is only Little Rock that is so long...unless they changed from 3-5 years ago.

I agree with twin screws. Most of the companies that hire new drivers are going to train you for 4-6 weeks so if you learn the Smith defensive driving, shifting, turns and backing then you'll pick up the other stuff along the way. I don't know if you necessarily get more drive time with those extra week anyway, I would look closely at the course description. A community college is always a better choice over a for profit school.

    I disagree.

Blanket statements like that are never accurate. Some community college programs are great, some are horrible....I've seen it both ways. Same goes for privately run schools.

In the end it's about the final results, the job you get.....how safely and properly were you trained, are you set up for success?

Community college programs are not always the best way to go.....I've seen some running at a 30-1 student to instructor ratio. Just like anything else, it depends on who is running the program and who the instructors are.
