To answer your first question, I have yet found any specific transcripts on Mary Peters, but I do know what she is doing is only the tip of the iceburg. I cant imagine what lies beneath.
I did find, that the Mexican companies coming across have to go through a qualifing process in order for their trucks to come in to the U S. And they cannot do any domestic freight here. The only backhauls are the ones returning to Mexico. Now...wether it is enforced to the fullest extent of the written law is another question.
People do tend to forget about how long border crossing has been going on from the north with Canada. And my question with that, outside of standards and regs on equipment, whats the difference?
Second question:
I beleive there will be a truckers strike, but ineffective do to the lack of organization, endorsements, and advertising. I only found out about it this past week over the cb radio. As I understand, it's only for the first week of April. (How do you put a expiration date on a strike?) and be effective?
Major companies and associations can't get involved due to anti-trust laws. There has got to be a better way to get the governments attention.

I'm in California, where Latino-Hispanic truckers dominate the state. In October of 2007, we had a chain-collision truck accident on the southbound I5 Newhall tunnel underpass. 30 semi trucks slammed into each other as they entered the blind-curve tunnel. Of those involved, 9 truckers (30%) fled the scene of the accident. According to witnesses, the truckers who fled were all Latino-Hispanics, and all were owner-operators. In spite of this significant event, the state had done nothing to set up check points and ascertain that truckers have valid CDLs when they drive through California.
Businesses and trade associations support illegals, and the Newhall incident implies that illegals are also driving semi trucks. The ones who do hold a valid CDL, had committed identity theft to do so. The fake social security cards and matching fake birth certificates (sold in the black market for around $800) belong to people who are either dead, or too young to work (children). In California, we're doing nothing about illegals, which in turn had resulted in a large influx (2 million gainfully employed illegals) who come here and take advantage of the state's illegal-alien-friendly atmosphere.
My transportation manager supports illegals; he claims the state would have at least double its current inflation rate if illegals were not here to provide labor. I work in a grocery distribution warehouse, and all our lumpers speak little or no English. Supposedly, the lumper company we subcontract with claims they would have to charge $500 to unload a truck if they had Americans (this is what the lumper's foreman told me). The lumper we contract with charges $300 to unload an entire trailer, which they claim is a bargain. -
When you say people are not opposed to illegal immigration you must be talking about the current, worthless Bush administration because there are thousands of people that are opposed to illegal immigration and Im one of those people.
If illegals started moving in around here (in the sticks) me and some other county folk would be giving them a most un-welcome hospitality and they wouldnt even have time to unpack before they go ran out.
Maybe you should awaken yourself to the thousands that are opposed to it.

But not to get off the subject.....as far as Mary Peters goes.......lets tar and feather her.

About the only report I heard today of the trucker strike was New Jersey. On the New Jersey Turnpike 18 wheelers were driving 20 MPH and backing up traffic. The NJTP commision said it backed up and congested exit 13.
At the Vince Lombardi service area, in the uppermost North, there were 200 truckers protesting.
I also heard on Fox News TV and the radio that various select independents were parking their trucks for the week.

Regarding "...what's the difference?"
The economies of Canada and the US are more on par with each other than the economies of Mexico and the US. There is little reason for Canadian truckers to come to the US and undercut US truckers, especially now that the Loonie is worth more than the US Dollar. Canadians might now instead be concerned about US truckers coming north and stealing THEIR jobs.
The disparity between what a Mexican trucker can earn driving in his own country and what he can earn driving north of the border is massive. Can't blame the Mexican driver for wanting to make as much money as possible for the same amount of work, so it is reasonable to think that he will want to drive in the US if allowed to do so.
Likewise the US trucking industry (and even the current administration) wants to keep labor as cheap as possible, and corporations are amoral entities driven only by the legal mandate of maximizing shareholder profit. If a trucking corporation can hire Mexican drivers to haul freight for 1/3 or less what they would have to pay US drivers, they WILL hire the cheaper labor, regardless of the impact on US labor or our own economy.
It doesn't really matter. There's always a low-paying McJob waiting for US drivers forced out of the trucking business. Eventually our own pay expectations won't be any higher than those of the Mexican drivers, and we might be able to get our jobs back...at a third of the current wage, of course. -

"THE ENERGY NON-CRISIS" FROM tonytt98Lindsey Williams, who has been an ordained Baptist minister for 28 years, went to Alaska in 1971 as a missionary. The Transalaska oil pipeline began its construction phase in 1974, and because of Mr. Williams' love for his country and concern for the spiritual welfare of the "pipeliners," he volunteered to serve as Chaplain on the pipeline, with the subsequent full support of the Alyeska Pipeline Company. Because of the executive status accorded to him as Chaplain, he was given access to information documented in his eye opening book, The Energy Non-Crisis.
IS AN EIGHT PART VIDEO SERIES ON YOUTUBE.
JUST TAKE A MOMENT TO VIEW THESE VIDEOS.....IF YOU DON'T HAVE A MOMENT.....SKIP TO THE LAST ONE.....I WAS SHOCKED AND THEN OUTRAGED......THE INFORMATION IS OUT THERE.....YOU JUST HAVE TO KNOW WHERE TO LOOK.....
Subject:
After numerous public speaking engagements in the western states, certain government officials and concerned individuals urged Mr. Williams to put into print what he saw and heard, stating that they felt this information was vital to national security. Mr. Williams firmly believes that whoever controls energy controls the economy. Thus, The Energy Non-Crisis

Mary Peters is nothing more than a Bush, Big Bussiness(trucking companies) puppet. Nothing more, nothing less.
As far as $4.00 for fuel and a not so successful truckers strike. This strike although not much to write home to mom about, was just an eye opener.
Fuel gets much higher, this truckers strike will get a lot more serious. Quickly!! -
This guy, Lindsey Williams, claims, gasoline will be 6 - 7 dollars a gallon, by the end of the year.....And, it's all a scam, to break America.....
Peace and Love,
Debbie
