Also don't go in looking like a duffle bag. A 3pc suit might not be necessary but business casual at the very least.

Hey Chris; Why did it take 5 weeks for you to start getting offered positions? If there are stacks of applications lying around that have a few items of information missing and yours was filled out completely and sent to many companies, then it seems like you should have gotten hired in less than a week unless there is a shortage of available trucks. Please elaborate.

Firstly, not all companies take paper apps. Those with electronic apps likely have way more candidates to choosevfrom and they seemed to almost always give preference to those with experience. Over half of the companies I applied to in the first couple weeks replied within a couple days Informing me I did not meet the requirements.

Not every company has insurance for recent truck driving graduates.

I did not fill out all my apps five weeks ago.

I have been filling out apps for five weeks.

Nearly all in the first three weeks were electronic and or just my resume/cover letter via email.
I did get my first interview some time back about two weeks ago with Key.
Took about 8 days for the interview after i initially turned in the app.

Most of my apps in the past two weeks if not All have been paper. Maybe a total of 4-5.

Nabors set up my interview nearly a month after I applied. This was last Monday.

I filled out a different paper app with a crude hauling company. I met the presidents brother whom I delivered pizza to.

Pretty much had that job within 24 hours but they did not have a training program set up yet nor insurance coverage.

I applied to them two weeks ago Friday.
This past Monday I was told the insurance approved the new training program and I was to be the first guy to run through it.

Did my UA the same day.

Was supposed to start this next Monday

Now, two weeks ago a co-worker who works at the DPS told me her cousin got hired on the spot as a Fuel Driver and that I should apply.

I did not apply until last Saturday.

Was a paper app. Had my prescreening on the spot. Interview was set up for the Wednesday that just passed.

So, the other paper apps have not been sorted through at the other couple companies or they just arent giving me notice. I am not for sure, dont have anymore need to follow up.

Out of the countless hours spend online, on the phone and in various offices there were only four interviews and three job offers.

All three job offers were this week.

In case you are wondering why after five weeks in Midland I had not been filling out more apps than what I did is because I have been very selective and specific in my job search.

You can read some of the chronicles in my other posts.

    Does this give better clarification?

Yes Chris, thanks for clarifying things. I don't want to spend a crap load of money to move down there and then find out that all of the good paying jobs have already been filled.

Won't happen bro. Almost all the jobs are good paying. Better than Missouri. At least where I am from, Saint Joseph.
Listen, after only being here for a few weeks I can tell you that EVERYBODY is hiring.
You just have to choose which job you want to do and get down here to hit the streets. I have heard it said that many companies here wont even take you serious unless you are already here. Once you are here you will understand better. If you got ten years experience, tanker and Hazmat you will have a way faster time of finding what you want. Everyone down here can attest to that. Down here, its the companies that get interviewed for the most part. I was told to be picky, take my time and choose wisely and I did. Great paying jobs are always available causebtherebis a huge turn over rate too. Many people have gotten stupid with all the money as well
Drugs, booze, tickets, jail...and the jobs get lost.
Many reasons why the turn over is high but yeah, there are many $100 k a year jobs

As Chris said, that won't happen. We were down here three day's when my husband got his job. He "lucked" into exactly what we needed, but we were hunting. I had filled out a lot of electronic app's, while he was still driving for the last OTR company he worked for. He got the job he has by seeing a "hiring CDL driver", that particular company had just hired the last person they needed at the time but the owner told my husband to try at the yard right up the road as he thought they were hiring.

He walked in, talked to the owner who said he needed a driver now, but was also hiring more. He stood their talking to the owner ( I had come in to ask to use the restroom) while I filled out his app... He took one look at it and the MVR we had gotten a copy of. Told my husband then if we wanted we could put our stuff in the travel trailer out front as that one would be our's, they were taking it down here that day.

The on-line apps all took at least 2 week's ( usually more) to get back to him. I did the research, I filled out his app's, he did all the follow-up call's. I suppose it might have worked if he had stuck to our plan, but he decided to quit ( with 2 week notice) about a month before the planned time.
