from 1998-2003 Cat C-15 have better fuel mileage. My 2004 Kenworth T600 has 6.58 MPG and you say terrible fuel mileage! My truck can travel up to 1316 miles with 200 gallons of diesel fuel. You should get a truck with a single turbo CAT C-15.

I tried the International Prostar with Maxxforce 13 engine. It is light weight engine. It sounds quiet like other new engines. It doesn't need diesel exhaust fluid. The engine uses advanced EGRs. One time, the turbo totally shut down. It was replaced and still runs on the road. Maxxforce 15 is also has EGR. The engine block, valve cover, cylinder heads are the parts from CAT C-15. Most drivers say that CAT C-15 has returned after cancellation in 2009. For engines after 2010, I recommend taking International Prostar with Maxxforce engines.

In 2011, CAT introduced CAT CT660 truck. Somewhere this year, I had chance to that truck. International trucks helped CAT to build the truck. The cab and engine came from International. The engine a the truck is CAT CT11, CT13, and CT15(coming up in 2012 and similar to CAT C-15). All three engines are from Maxxforce. Can't wait to see them on the road.

Maxxforce engines suck! I have one and can't wait to dump it. 36,000 miles 13l motor rated for 475hp and it sucks. Two new egr values gone bad. Oil samples suck, dealer is fighting with cat about it, burning a gallon of oil every 60 hours. No power, weak jake, only good thing is it starts great in cold weather. -28f and starts right up.

Agree with it. They don't have power and weak jakes. My friend had 2012 prostar and blown off by 200k miles. Also had regen problems.

The bridge motors were when Cat could not make an engine that met the polution specs, I believe it was in 2004 they had a catalitic converter in the top section of the mufflers and Cat paid a large penalty to sell them.
The early "E" had a lot of problems rocker arm studs wouls stretch and if not caught early they destroyed the head, I replace up to 3 cams and rockers in one engine, even after all the changes they still had rocker arms that bent and broke.'
The early isx's blow up a lot, we had a customer that bought 6 I replaced 5 of them.
A series 60 is by far the easyest motor to work on, had the least amount of problems, and gave the best fuel milage by far.
The N14 is also a great engine, they had a lot of injector and pass thru conector problems, for the first year, after the engine, was repaired for oil leaks, and the liners reshimed to .005 to .006 they were bullet proof, there were some cam problems and leaking front covers and accesory drive seals.
The early acerts had a lot of problems with the exhaust inserts breaking and destroying both turbo's, the later ones with the IVA's were a piece of crap and Cat would not pay for the 10 hours of checks they wanted done, and you had to get a complete IVA jake head.
We sold very few C13's or C12's, the 3176 was a tough engine, and worked OK, as long as you used Dex-cool and had a water filter. If you used DCA 4 in any engine, especially a Cat, it eats the aluminum and rusts the steel from the inside out.
I have no experiance with Volvo, and all Mack experiance was not good, to expensive to repair.

Always have a gallon of oil a week.

If your burning a gallon a week running dump trailer it is a problem. I have another truck that has an N-14 and has 13000+ hours on it and doesn't burn or leak a gallon a month and they both run the same runs and same hours. Both leave together and come back together. Truck with the N-14 seems to wait for the truck with the maxxfroce 13 junker..
