We're talking about Watkins, how do you explain their safety record being in live with companies that train? Either people don't need it, my opinion and if you do, find something rose to do, if this easy gig is too much for you, we'll..... , or the trainers suck by not advancing safety records.
10 day training? Are you high?

Well to be a trainer with us drivers receive a vast amount of prestige. Being a trainer for us is a very big deal and we have lots of drivers who would love to train but can not due to the fact you have to be invited. Trainers receive certain perks like parking and free serious radio. But for us it is a pride thing.

Thanks, I can understand that - although I don't identify. Part of my motivation to drive truck is the solitude as I've led a fast paced life, and been the go-to person for far too many people. Sharing my 8x8 space would be my worst nightmare. Many thanks to those that do it though.

I didn't read all 239 pages up to this point But I'm not going to argue this, I do need to say this though, I have met and talked to many Drivers for Watkins and Shepard and they all seem like they are as good or better then the average driver, I think where the OP missed the mark is the 10 days is after they have been through an Accredited Driving Course and have obtained their CDL then the training at W & S is 10 days not total driving training, I heard that there are many that do not make it, I also heard if they don't think you can cut the mustard that they will not send you out in a truck. I also know that they have a very good support sytem, I have spoke to drivers who have mentored others when they were new, So it isn't total Truck Driving Training in 10 days, it is this is what we expect of you training.!

Just giving a road test to a few new experienced drivers was too much time in a truck with someone else for me. When my wife rode with me for awhile, that was enjoyable. I teamed a few tanker loads of acid from Tennessee to Seattle, WA just as a favor to the company with a new customer; even though the team mate is a good friend and married to my wife's cousin, neither of us really liked it. Being a trainer for a company would be like serving a prison sentence.bergy and bulldog522002 Thank this.

I just looked up their safety record and it sucks.Sure they might be satisfactory but almost every carrier is.DOT lets carriers get away with too much.If the laws were about protecting the ppl then why so many accicidents and why does it keep happening. So are you saying ppl that need training in this profession should find another line of work? You think ppl coming into this industry should be born to drive trk.Just hand him the keys and go?

A lot longer than 10 days, and 2 of those you mentioned dont take trainees just sayinpattyj Thanks this.

He's kind of saying that they've had training at an approved school, then they are evaluated for 10 days. Oh and I think he implied that the keys should be hidden somewhere in the main office and the drivers have to complete a multi stage scavenger hunt to earn the right to the keys to their truck. -
Thank you for proving my point! Their record is fine.Chinatown Thanks this.

And yes, if you need anywhere near a month of training, you should find another job, this is too tough for you. People learn to fly planes faster with less time actually flying. This is not rocket science, actually as far from it as you can get.
