How to tell if the finals are bad in a radio without test equipment. What are the symptoms?

You won't be able to be heard more than maybe 50 feet away....

No problem. Do you know if your antenna was shorted? Or maybe the wrong size for the radio? Or did you transmit near some metal not on the truck?

Sometimes transistors go bad or wear out.

Yes they can, but I'd wager more often than not it's due to the SWR being high for a multitude of reasons

Have it tested. don't think that because you can't be heard means that they are bad.
