Here's an article I read today explaining why rates were so good this past winter. Seems it had to do with problems in the rail system. According to the article, customers may start back turning to rail service so watch out for the rates.

Rates may soon be coming down

Rumours... gotta love 'em

Just kidding, good to pay attention to industry trends and factors.70s_driver Thanks this. -
Well it's almost memorial day, so the rates aren't coming down any time in the next 2 weeks. They may dip a bit after the holiday, but summer is not usually when we see a dip in rates. As far as the long term forecast, they may be down year over year next winter, but as a long term trend the rates have to keep going up. There simply aren't enough drivers for it to go any other way.
70s_driver Thanks this. -
there's plenty of drivers.
look at any truckstop during the day. tons of trucks either looking or waiting for a load.
this whole shortage of trucks is hogwash. when half are sitting around waiting.70s_driver and 217flatbedr Thank this. -
amen.....as long as they're offering .098 out of TX and FL, (and get it), they don't need trucks that bad
bbone and 70s_driver Thank this. -
You're saying that there must be an adequate volume of equipment because you saw a lot of trucks at a truck stop? Seriously man?
wonderdog24, 70s_driver and rollin coal Thank this. -

Boy flatbedding is the place to be right now, well except in Fla.

yep, seriously man. not just a truck stop. truck stops AROUND this country.
if there were a shortage of truckers. that would mean more loads then trucks. and the lots would be empty.
course, the low rates have a part in it.
before the recession hit. there were 3 loads to every truck.
now, there's 10 trucks to every load. probably lower then that now that frieght has picked up. but, where's the shortage. with all them trucks sitting around. places like phoenix. you WON'T find a place to park. at noon. denver is close. salt lake city, dallas, houston. you've got areas that are filled up 24/7.
so where's the shortage?????
with the med regs kicking in, eobr, and burger flippers wanting $15. you might see a shortage sometime in the near future. but not right now.70s_driver Thanks this.
