My husband and I own a 2000 Freightliner with a 60 series Detroit. He is on the road right now and just called saying that the truck is acting up horrible and he can't figure it out and I'm hoping somebody can help me. He said that every 10 to 15 miles the truck acts like it is not getting any fuel for about 1 to 2 seconds. No lights come or anything and he says everything else on it is working fine and he has changed the fuel filter 3 different times. Does anybody know what would cause it to act like that?

Does it only feel like it is running out of fuel for a split second, then come back alive? Almost as if it is missing a beat?

When it acts like it is running out of fuel does black smoke coming shooting out the stack. Had this happen to me last year with my Century and it was the EGR valve.
-
2000 FL very unlikely it has EGR ...

Yes that's how he explained it to me.

by rother has a 2000 classic that did just the same as yours turned out the ecm fuse holder in the battery box had that green crap in it he cut the holder out truck ran great got him off the road he did put a new fuse holder in when he got home

It doesn't have an EGR and it don't blow black smoke either.

I just spoke with him and he said it does have that green stuff on it so he said he will clean it off and see if that fixes it.

It may be water in the fuel , ask him if he just purchased fuel . This happens often in NJ and low lying areas after it rain if the service station doesn't take care of seals near the filling area. Id say take down the filters and pour the fuel into a cup to see if it has water in it .

Mine did that when SRS/TRS sensors were going bad. Was told it is a common problem on old Detroit engines. Had mine replaced, never experienced the problem again. However - if not diagnosed and this IS the problem, if the sensor goes totally bad or if the wiring disconnects, it will cut all engine power. These sensors tell the ECM about the timing information and when to fire fuel in. They are not expensive, and I was told some people keep spare sensors with them at all times. Let us know how this turns out.
