Why does 40 "suck?" It is much easier running it than 80 because there are no mountains. In his case though since he's going to San Jose 80 is the best choice but if he was headed to Los Angeles it would be another story.

If the weather's good, Ill go 80 out and 40 back to NC... So ill get to see both....

I was surprised to see going to California via 40 instead of 80 is only 200 more miles from Michigan... I thought it would be more. Google time estimate is only 2 more hrs....

Are you running solo? or Team?

If you are solo, is 5 days enough?

ALWAYS put in some time for delays. NO load is that important to take chances because of some deadline that you have to meet.

    Why?

Mountains are easy this time of year.

Please... Cali DOT are not bad, try Ohio, talk about ... never mind I will be nice.

OP....you have to figure in the exaggeration factor on this board. People like to bash California but it's no worse than a lot of the state's you've already driven in. Just don't go over 60. Don't give any cops the finger. Common sense stuff.

Once you cross into Cali, sunny weather all the way to San Jose. Now,there are 3 ways to get into San Jose, backdoor 680, direct route 880 thur Oakland or 80 San Fran (pay toll bridge) kinda high avoid that route. Make sure u pull into rest area @ Donner Summit. CHP is camped out and watching. Make sure your jakes are on from Donner Summit to Loomis. U will be hill free till you get to Fairfield. Have fun and enjoy the weather and ride.

Donner can surprise you sometimes, weatherwise. However, you should be OK 3rd week in May. Ca. has road conditions VIA 511 on your phone. Very accurate and up to date. Another piece of advice RE: I-80 westbound out of Evanston, Wy. into Salt Lake City. To avoid Parleys grade into SLC (6% downgrade) use I-80/I-84/I-15/I-215/I-80. You'll avoid the 6% downgrade and downtown SLC traffic and it's only about 15 miles further. Very helpful in the winter months if it's icy and you're heavy.

guess Cali plans on using drones to deliver ALL freight into and out of their state. Cause soon they will chase all drivers away. We need to vote an 0/0 into Presidency to fix this crap. Any volunteers? LoL

Don't rely on google time to be real accurate either, it might take longer in some areas because of the mountains so add some time to projected google time.

What? 5 days? As a solo driver we do it in 3 days from Jersey to SF area but usually 4 on a way back because of tiredness.
