Is it enough? 5 days from Grand Rapids would feel like a very laid back vacation. 2330 miles divided by 5 days is only 466 miles a day.
Headed to California.....

80 is your best route into the Bay Area. If its McEnery Convention Centre you're going to then the 280 is right by it. You can take 80 across the summit through Sacramento and go south on 680 just past Fairfield. Or you can take 80 into Sacramento, get on 5 South to 580 which connects to the 680 in Dublin, you'll avoid the Benicia/Martinez bridge and Walnut Creek/Concord traffic.
Parking in the bay area is crap. Theres a Flying J on 5 in Lodi and a FJ and a Loves on 99 in Ripon. There is a Pilot on 80 in Sacramento. There is a coop on the summit in Truckee and another coming in through the Sacramento suburbs on 80. One by the 80/680 split, one on 680 in Walnut Creek, one on 680 in Freemont, one on 880 south of Newark, and one on 5, north of the CA 152 junction.
The speed limit for trucks is 55, keep it under 60 and stay under CHP's radar. Mind the jakes and high-idling in the Bay Area, the yuppies hate that. You said you had a short trailer so you shouldn't need worry about the 40 ft thing.
CA is just another state. If you get a chance stop in Sacramento, lemme know I'll spot you a coffee.ncmickey Thanks this. -
Yeah I realized my math was wrong when I left.ncmickey Thanks this.

First day in the books.... 675 miles.... and a blown tire. Another first for me! LOL. Everyday is an adventure.... sitting in western Iowa taking my ten and abusing the free internet!! Lol
On another note, one of the drivers for the co. I worked for had to leave because of a difficult pregnancy his wife was having. They got a driver from a temp service....who drove to the venue in NJ, then abandoned the truck, stole the petty cash and gas cards and disappeared...Last edited: May 19, 2014

California is not so bad.
1. Stick to 55 mph
2. Highway police are active so don't draw attention to yourself.
3. A lot of rest areas are closed so plan your stops
4. Lots and lots of traffic
80 is your best route to get to San Jose. Don't underestimate the winds in Wyoming. They can flip you over if your trailer is light.ncmickey Thanks this. -
They were pretty strong in western Illinois and Iowa today too. Steady 25-30 with gusts up to 45...
I will be careful. Thanks -
I never stop at that brake check. I run that part of 80 quite a bit. Rarely see any CHP. Mostly just the sheriff deputies.
OP, don't worry. Weather will be fine. Don't let the ######## riding your ### intimidate you. When they've had enough they'll pass you.ncmickey Thanks this.
