1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

I already have a tanker endorsement, and on May15th I submitted digital fingerprints to the TSA, and next Tuesday I will take the Hazmat test. I have no felonies on my record, so I expect to get approval by the TSA within a few weeks. I have taken the Hazmat test several times in years past, and I have passed the test the first time every time. I let my last Hazmat endorsement expire because my employer then didn't require it, and because I would have had to drive quite a ways to get to a testing site.
I do not have experience in pulling tankers, but I have in the past pulled vans with large square containers roughly 4' x 4' x 4' filled with paint, therefore I have pulled sloshing loads around. I fully expect to feel stronger sloshes from baffled tankers. Perhaps I could start out hauling water and migrate to hauling crude when the TSA clears me? I also have worked for over 2 decades as a mechanic albeit not recently, so perhaps that is another option. I have a bit of a million miles of OTR experience plus several years of 10 wheel dump truck driving for an excavating company. I live in Missouri, but I intend to travel to an oilfield next week. I would like to be able to get home every once in awhile. Perhaps working 3 weeks on and getting one off might work? This is negotiable.
I quit my last OTR trucking job a little over a year ago because I was hoping to become self-employed locally. Unfortunately, things haven't worked out well at all. I left the last job on good terms with a great OTR trucking company (FCC), and the owner sent me a "you are welcome to return" letter that I can provide a copy of. I might take him up on that but I would rather earn more money and to try something new. I always got my bonus for driving more than 10,000 miles per month, so I am not afraind of working long hours, but I will not risk my life by driving sleepy. I view the 10 hours off as being minimal, but working 12 hours isn't a problem. I also want consistant times. I prefer to work days, but working nights for awhile until a day position opens up is fine. I will need a place to live at with Internet. I might very well rent an apartment, but I do factor in expenses vs income when I make decissions. Living in a sleeper is an option if I can park somewhere to shower and eat real food as opposed to sandwhiches/ fast food. If I end up living in a man camp then I do not want to live with a smoker or in an area with fights. I'm a peaceful and highly rational person and I do not want to live with or work for grouches and/or backstabbers.
    Questions are welcome.

Look into frac sand companies. Flexfrac out of Alvarado, TX. hires people out of truck driving school sometimes. There are others, Quicksand in Burleson, TX. Do a search on indeed.com or any other job website for "frac sand driver". I want to stress that this is just a starting point in order to get tanker experience and the pay isn't greatest but it isn't the worst either. You can try searching for "oil tanker driver" in Midland/Odessa TX. There are a lot of companies hiring but I'm not sure if they hire someone without tanker experience. One other thing is to check out is salt water driver. Good luck.

Update to my previous post: I have passed the HazMat test and I have also added and passed the doubles test to my tanker endorsement on my CDL. I'm just waiting for the TSA paperwork.
