New step deck

    Sent out my deposit today for my new step deck. Gonna have to wait a little while b/c having it built. It's a 50ft reitnouer. Hopefully it doesn't take too long. Estimated build time is right around 9-12 weeks from order date to completion. If anyone has had one built recently, doesn't matter the make, let me know how it went for you.

    Also, has anyone had a trailer built that is illegal in certain states? The one I'm building does not reach requirements in California, Connecticut, Oklahoma, and maybe another one. I'm setting the axle on the spread all the way back on the 50ft step which will put me over on the bridge law. The factory said they usually have to leave a 18 inch overhang to make it legal, but I hate the look of the overhang and decided to have them roll the axles back. I've never really looked into the laws that extensively not really sure if trailer will be legal or not. Thought the bridge law was 41' from kingpin to center axle. Either way doesn't make a difference for me I already signed paperwork giving permission for the factory to build at my request. So far they've been pretty accommodating. If anyone has had experience with this chime in. Thanks

    I haven't bought a new trailer can't give any insight there.

    I see the ct dot giving people static over lengths as you describe, but to an untrained eye it'd probably go unnoticed.. I'd run it is what I'm saying.

    Yeah I spec'd it to be just like a 48ft just two feet longer. So 40ft bottom deck and rolled the spread back 2 ft. I really think if u just look at it without a tape measure don't think you'll see much of a difference. I have a 50ft spread Dane refer and that legal but the kingpin sits different and I guess that's the difference from what they are telling me. I'll just fit on the scale by a few inches. The tractor is 290wb but usually if you fit of the scale they will let you go with no hassle. Just depends on how much they wanna mess with ya

    I would have made it 53ft and legal in all states including those I don't travel today. Good luck though, I own a Reitnouer flat that is a serious revenue generator, so I know for certain, you've made a wise choice.

    Yeah I hear you, I looked at the 53ft I just couldn't get over the overhang in the back plus they can't build a 53 with the extra stainless panel and light package which is a must for me. The cut off for the setup I'm going with was 49ft. However, I spoke to the factory and they will custom build it for a 50ft but no longer than that.

    Florida is enforcing their kp law as well as Michigan. Sound like a silly request. IMO.

    A 50' with the spread configured the same as a 48' (ie. rear axle all the way back) is going to be difficult to tell from a 48' unless you're parked right next to one. Eagle eyed scalemasters still might catch it, but if you've got a long tractor as well it isn't going to be that obvious that the extra length isn't in the tractor wheelbase.

    Sounds nice, I really like the Reitnouer steps.

    I've ordered two 53 Wilson Road Brute step decks. A 2008 and a 2012. I spec'd them with a fixed 121" spread and 41' from KP to center of the axle "group" so I believe they are illegal in CT and Cali. Don't go to Cali and haven't had a problem in CT.

    oh what a bummer...I mean, hes illegal in FL, CT and CA. I sure hes really going to miss those freight "hot spots".

    take them off your cab card and move on. l

    Id spec a trailer same way.

    I have (2) 50' Wilson Road Brute steps setup exactly as this LargeCar has spec'd his new reitnouer. We have not had any trouble with the law to this point. We are careful not to send these trailers to Commny-fornia the two or three times we go there annually. However, I'm sure these trailers have seen every state east of I-35 without so much as a second glance from the DOT.

    All-in-all, I'm glad I have the extra 2' when I need it. However it is rare when I can't make whatever I'm trying to do work on a 38' lower deck. It is nice the the longer bridge on the 50' trailer helps transfer weight to the drives.
