For the trainers that are company drivers, I was wondering what terminal you're dispatched out of? How long did it take from the time you took the trainer's course until you were consistently running with a trainee?
My husband became a trainer in March, was put in a full size truck and has had a trainee for one week since then. My husband took home time in April and won't ask for it again until the beginning of June.
What advice would you give? Should he keep plugging along or ask to go back to his lightweight? This situation is starting to hurt the piggy bank.
Thanks for the advice!

Why did he only have a trainee for one week? Is he doing PSD, TNT, or both?
-
Was dispatched out of Springfield, always had a PSD in the truck, would do 3-4 weeks with the trainee, test him out, then take 5 days off, then go back to Springfield and get another Student.John's Girl Thanks this.

My husband was trained to be a TNT trainer. From my location you can tell where he's dispatched out of.
Should he request to be dispatched out of Springfield? -
I am out of Springfield as most of us are, any I have had a TNT trainee on my truck since like the first week of December. All I have done is once one trainee was done and upgraded I usually take my home time and then let my FM know that I am ready to pick up another trainer. If a week or so goes by then I just send a little reminder. Just remember they try to match trainer and trainee by where their homes are and if they are a smoker or not. Now I live in Indiana and my current trainee lives in southern Georgia so matching doesn't always work but they try to get them close or at least my FM does.

im guessing he's also on the NE fleet. Sure, you can ask. It might not happen. If it does, are you prepared to lose another .05 per mile leaving the NE fleet?
there are far more TNT trainers than they're are TNT trainees. There's a small percentage of instructors who give up their students to trainers. Most instructors keep their students for TNT.
Best at thing he can do is remind his fleet manager weekly that he'd like to get a trainee.John's Girl Thanks this. -
Should he consider training to be a PSD instructor then? Any idea on what pay looks like for that position?
He normally goes 5 weeks between home times and only takes 4 days off.
Yes, he did start out NE regional. If his miles were between 1600-1900 we were ok. If the pay is comparable to that or better I can put the bug in his ear to let him know what needs to be done.
Thank you all for your help so far.

you have to be with Prime for a year driving solo before he can be a PSD instructor not sure how long he has been with Prime. You said he started out in the NE region I am going to assume he has switched since then?
-
He was NE in a LW prior to training and getting put into a full size truck. I'm thinking he may still be NE, but they've been running him outside of the region so much I have no idea what the thought process is. lol (I know, where the freight needs to be, he goes.) He's been with Prime for over a year.

If he is still only doing 1600-1900 miles a week in a full size I can bet the piggy bank is not happy. I don't know what the pay for PSD instructors is like so I can't help there except to me it is something that he would really have to want to do. As it has been said he should at least talk to his FM about a trainee that will make the piggy bank happy.
