Yeah it happens but don't expect a BCO to put you in contact with his best freight sources either. You develop business relationships over time with agents and they call you once they find out you are reliable. BCOs are willing to help you but why should they give you their best sources for good freight? Develop your own sources through trial and error like the rest of us.

Chubby Bunny got a point... wasting all day earning an extra $100 bucks for unloading is kinda of useless. That's about the norm over here when it comes to unloading cabinets & tires. But if you can make it work go for it. Just dont limit yourself to the I-85 corridor IMO

Do you mean to tell me that Landstar will terminate your lease if you break down and end up on the shoulder of the highway? What about if you have pulled onto the shoulder of an off ramp does that apply also? I understand high standards, but if you are always looking to get rid of drivers how do you ever move freight?
-
In an emergency the sitting duck rule does not apply. Just put out your triangles like you are suppose to. Now parking on an on/off ramp is a violation of the sitting duck rule unless its an emergency. Was told at orientation that we must trip plan properly and know how to dispatch ourselves properly to avoid those type of situations.

If you have a emergency or breakdown and you are along side of the road you must call Landstar and let them know what is going on! Yup, previous poster is right, parking on the ramp can get ur lease terminated!

Walbash in Phoenix has some great air ride trailers starting for around 12,000. I can't remember the builder right now.Dewey120 Thanks this.

I guess my question is what do they consider parking? Is pulling over to check your map a violation? What about when you have to pull over to "take care of business because you are on one of those roads that have nothing available for stopping, such as in Texas? I get not just parking for an extended period, but there are times you have to pull over to check a problem with the truck, find your way, etc.

Just use common sense and you will be fine concerning the sitting duck rule.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Preacherman, obviously Landstar wants you to operate in the safest way possible. If you need to pull off the side to check on a possible problem, then do it. If you think you're going to sleep on a ramp, then you aren't going to work out here.

Got it. The 5 second rule for food, the 5 minute rule for stopping. If I need to set out triangles to remain legal I need a better spot, or start making phone calls. FYI, I have never spent more than 5 or 10 minutes on a ramp, or highway pull-off area by choice. As far as I know most companies have a similar rule although the penalties aren't usually quite so severe.
Assuming I do make this switch, I don't consider other drivers my competition. Your perfect load will not be mine and agents you get along well with for me might be like oil and water. My roommates and I in college had a philosophy that I have continued to live by: "Be sure your sins will find you out, but I won't be the one to tell." It seems to me that if you have to go around policing your fellow drivers, or eliminating the competition you are a very small person. The best at what they do never need fear competition.
