Well, I've made the decision to go to school here in MN and finally get my CDL. I've been thinking about this for many years and now seems like the right time for me. I've already had one career and took an early retirement from a State job a few years ago, so I figure I've got time to fit in another career before I retire for good. To be honest, after reading all the posts on this forum and all the negative experiences people have had with the big carriers that hire drivers out of school, you'd think maybe I should get my head examined before signing up for this type of job. At least, I now know what to expect. I've pretty much come to the conclusion that no matter where I go, I'm going to have to suck it up, work hard and pretty much accept the BS for a year or so. I'm willing to do that because it seems like there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and from what I've read the experienced drivers seem to be doing OK and seem like they for the most part really like driving. So wish me luck, and I'll keep you posted....

The drivers that are complaining didn't plan well. The took the first job that was offered with no prior research.

Prepare early & get all the endorsements plus TWIC and a passport. There is no reason to make less than $50K your first year if you plan well.

Study the "CDL Practice Tests" by clicking on the link at top of this page.
