Hi everybody.
I'm trying to create a business plan for myself and I have a very good idea of the rest of the expenses, but this one's got me stuck.
No, I'm not starting in the business after watching Shipping Wars (ugh) and I do have contacts (not contracts though) and a pretty solid knowledge of the business. I have worked a lot with my brother who has been in this business for over 15 years but he does all of the maintenance and most of the repairs himself, so I'm completely lost here.
Is 10 cpm reasonable? 15?
We will either be starting with a 96 Freightliner FLD120 (don't laugh) or a 2005 or so Medium Duty with a 3-4 car hauler and will be running only in Florida.
Please help.
How much for repairs and maintenance?

Don't worry about maintenance and repairs because if you are staying in FL with a 3/4 car, you'll be out of business before your first oil change.
John Dewart, drivertim, SHO-TYME and 2 others Thank this. -
That's Plan A. I would love to just stay in Florida, but I know it's really tough. There's a Plan B though, and if that doesn't work either then I'll go with Plan C: moving to wherever it is that you happen to be hiring a good driver : )

What about Florida is so bad? I hear this a lot and would like to know as I'm just starting out. If no one is making any money here, then who is doing the work?

From the looks of things, crackheads

I'm not joking. If it doesn't work in Florida I'm going to relocate to wherever you can make money in trucking and be home every or almost every night. Time will tell I guess.
