Thanks Gordon, I was going to check them out at a truck stop when I get to Indiana first week of July, will fly to the states for a few week vacation.
Hope to get to talk to some truckers and check out different rigs. I have been here in South Korea for 8 yrs and go back to Indiana once a year.
Hope to maybe get a ride in a truck for a short trip but not sure if I will get that worked out or not.

Iowa 80 Truck stop owns the Petro in Joplin Mo and the one in Oak Grove MO also. I a 80 has a big jamboree every years and a truck show for those of us that like to see chrome and unique paint jobs.. Some trucks are too over done for my tastes. I like to see the oldies restored. I would like to find a 68 Pete COE like I had back in the day. Man, the NTC 335 got er done in fine style with the 4:11 rears and the RTO 9513 tranny. Bias ply tires. Do you think any of today's drivers could drive by the pryometer now like we used to do ? Of course back then it was so much more than what is expected of drivers today. I am so lazy now not having to do the stuff I used to do. Actually just grateful I dont .

Gee, I leave you guys alone for a little while, come back and the conversation is all about eating bugs, innards and ....ahem, other things (Chinatown)!:biggrin_2554::biggrin_2559:

oliver2, I am so glad to see that you have been here! You have been on my mind. How are you and George?
jungHo, I have a brother that owned a trucking company long before the King ever started driving. He has been married at least 5 times that I know of. He told me once many years ago that he always knew his marriage was in trouble when his current wife didn't miss him anymore. Now, not that my brother is a fine example for anyone to look up to, but I have always remembered that. It helped me to maintain an "attitude of gratitude" when the King started driving. Even when I don't think I can stand to listen to anymore complaints about shippers, receivers, etc., I still listen because I would far rather him be talking to me than to someone else. I know he misses me as much as I miss him because I am the one he calls and complains to!:biggrin_25526::biggrin_2559:

ajacks, passport is right about the studies on sleep patterns, that is the reason for the new rules on a reset. That period between 1am and 5am is the worst for most drivers. The King does alright until about 4am to 7am, and that is when he will stop and take a nap if he has to. The funny thing is that working days his preferred time to start driving is around 4am. A driver is in a climate controlled box for most of his day and one of the things that we have found is that it is very easy to become dehydrated, which can zap your energy. Drinks with caffeine will add to that problem. The King will drink an Emergen-C or a Powerade when he is driving at night. The electrolytes and vitamins will give him enough of an energy boost to help him do what he needs to do for the most part .....and if that doesn't work he has no problem stopping the truck and taking a nap.

HTQ, the incident with your brother, that one of his wives (or another) didn't miss him is sad. I asked George that question yesterday, wouldn't he like to know that I miss him. He said yes and no. He's glad I miss him but doesn't want me to be miserable. Sorry about your brother's luck. I totally agree with you. I'd rather George vent the bad or share the good with me too! While I miss him dearly, I also appreciate all he does to make a living. I'm observing it isn't all fun and games out there. We've got to be supportive of our husbands to let them know we care. You are a great mentor, HTQ!

I think most husbands that are drivers want to know that you miss them ....but they don't want to hear about it!:biggrin_255: Which sounds sad and horrible ...but it is just a reality of their work. With everything that goes on OTR they don't need to be distracted or worrying about what is going on at home. It is a hard line to walk....and we all have days when we will need to just take a step back. There are plenty of days that I am just fed up and angry, but I don't let it turn into resentment. Anger lasts a short time, but resentment will fester.

Where did you go to college for your degree in family relationships? Your good and seem to hit the nail on the head every time. We need more like you to teach this at driving schools. It would go a long way in lowering the driver turnover, to say nothing about preventing family break ups due to separation of the OTR job. Interested?

Thank you, Gordon. I never did finish a degree .....other than in martial arts, (my rank is the equivalent of a masters degree), I was one of those folks that went to school for this ....and went to school for that! Accounting, law, ....anything that struck my fancy at the time. I think most of us finally grow up and realize what works for us, what helped us make it through life's various situations. You come to the conclusion that good people have a tendency to think alike and that what you have learned may help someone else not make the same mistakes that you did. Whether you are a driver or a driver's wife, most that find this thread are looking for answers, help and validation. We all like to know that we aren't alone, a little bit of empathy and kindness go a long way toward making a situation easier.
In martial arts you are duty bound to share the knowledge that was given to you with the ones behind you. This thread has helped me on a daily basis since the first time I found it....and I hope we are helping everyone that finds us since then. It is a privilege to be able to give back a little of what was so freely given to me.

That being said, I do have my "days"! The days that I am not on here, you will know that I have lost my "zen" and I am outside kicking something or playing with swords! :smt027:biggrin_2559:
