Yes,once you start a log sheet even working at a factory counts off your 14. Of course assuming you havent had 10 hours off. It seems like since you never leave the local area. You could use the 16 hour short haul trucker exception. Still only drive 11,but once a week do a 16 hour day.Just a thought.

 

If you split time between being a yard driver and a road driver, from my interpretation of the guidance for section 395.2, the time spent as a yard driver should be recorded as regular driving time.

The question asked refers specifically to weekdays and weekends, however, given that there is no guidance saying that this doesn't apply otherwise, I'd assume that any time spent as a yard driver should be logged as driving.

Then, said yard dog, doesn't get behind the wheel of anything with air brakes, weights more then 26,001 lbs, a fifth wheel, etc...

but of course, people ALWAYS obey the law...

 

If he is strictly operating on private propert he doesn't need a CDL or to follow Hours of Service.

 

Any work, even not trucking related will count as "on duty not driving". For example; you leave the trucking company and work as a night waiter somewhere.....That time counts as On Duty Not Driving. This would have an effect on your 70 and your 14. If you worked all night somewhere you would need 10 hrs off before going on the Driving line
