I remember riding with Granddad, climbing the Siskiyou summit, headed south into the warm California sun. Two trucks were trying poorly to overtake each other. One billowing out black smoke, and the other was clear. He said "According to the feds, (if you worked for any government agency, you were a "fed") the one burning clear has too high a combustion temperature and is polluting with oxides of nitrogen, the other is using diesel to cool the cylinders, and smoke, AKA suspended particulate, is not a pollutant." Then added "Which one can you smell kid?" By then one of the trucks had won the race, and he twisted on the Detroit an bit, and passed them both. At that time, "Detroit" was a 2-stroke, noisy, dependable, noisy, bulletproof, noisy, fuel thirsty, and no longer available engine. In the 71 series, available from single cylinder, (used in sailboats and power plants) to 16 cylinder. (Mostly in tug boats) This one was a 12. (Did I mention they were noisy?)
Banning all old trucks after 2015?

Well, I just spend some time researching Gliders and I have read no where that they are legal in CA so, guess I will have to inform my boss that he is indeed wrong. I thought he was but, I had never actually did any research beyond what a glider was..
Studebaker Hawk Thanks this. -
One contractor I used to work for had nothing but 2 cycle Detroits....They always sounded like they were gonna blow-up...But dependable as hell...
-
Yep and then there's the upgrades that PDI offers...Most have that disclaimer about not being legal in Cali....
Put it this way...CARB won't stop...We could all be driving '15 models today and CARB would change the rules....If you live or run in Cali...You'll know what I mean... -
What's a reality? I don't understand this comment. What does it have to do with this discussion? I don't care if I were a millionaire I would not be complying with CA regs. Simple as that. Has NOTHING to do with the money. I intentionally and specifically bought a pre emission truck. My money, my choice. Last I checked this was the US of A.SheepDog Thanks this.

This isn't the US of A... Get with the times and program.....because we all in Obama country now lmao

NO...We're in "Mary Nichols' World"....SheepDog Thanks this.

My truck spent 2 weeks at the Cat house in july, where dealer guy and marine division big man told me they've been briefed that the new emissions will start next year north east of TN and OR.
Must be a great time to buy a glider... not.
