i would NEVER advise anyone to start as a company driver
i started out as a lease operator, i did company driver for one company for six months and hated every second of it
the man is obviously NOT wanting to work as a company man, hence he is getting his own truck
yes, he does need to see if trucking is for him, but starting out as someone's b.....h is not the way to learn this business
at least it wasnt for me -
And here i was thinking that bankers never go to jail.

You're joking right?
How did that work out? How different is "lease operator" from company driver other than a L/O has expenses?
I am thinking of getting my own truck some day but also my own authority and finding/booking my own loads. Because the way I see it is if you are an O/O leased on to a company you're still having to deal with them and can only pick from those from the loads they have available. I figure if I will have my own equipment I want to be 100% independent and call all the shots. I would only buy a new or almost new truck as I don't have the mechanical know-how or tools to constantly repair junk plus I need to be able to go to Cali. But this dream requires at least $40k in liquid cash to get rolling so it will be a while before I can even think of getting started. -
No crooked banker has ever served a day in jail. Only petty thiefs do time.

I had spent 25k in fuel before I got my first check.

Hi Driver, just a quick word, no mechanical know how is the kiss of death for an O/O.

And a truck is more needy than any woman you could ever encounter. Because all your home time could easily be taken up with some sort of routine/necessary type task which requires hours of the time you should be spending with your family. Which is precisely the reason I am back in a company truck."semi" retired Thanks this. -
Hi 6 Speed, I like your handle, when my son was a kid, he had a bicycle that had 6 gears, and I always called him "6 Speed". Re: your comment, it was one of the things that cooked my marriage. I'd be gone most of the week, maybe get in on a Tues. & Thur. late, come the weekend, I'd have oil to change, 3 acres of grass to cut, while my ex stood there yelling, "We're supposed to go to my mom's today" or "the kids are in a parade today", just couldn't do it. Man, I'm glad those days are over!!!!!6 Speed Thanks this.
