The point about the moolah is good, OH is still (relatively) affordable, in a 4 wheeler. But 35 is good road, I have ran it many times (I would load out of Tipp city heading for Charlotte NC) and once you get past dayton/xenia it runs great- no traffic lights and 4 lane all the way to the WV line. There was some construction going on, but it was still moving well.
Once you get into WV, it could be a bit slower; since it's two lane, if you get stuck behind someone who's either: scared, or a law-abiding citizen (does EXACTLY the speed limit) then it can take more time than you might want it to. But it is still a good route.
Oh yeah, if you are going to run I77 (out of charleston,WV),that is a toll road!

IS crazy.

No cali is crazy
-
So, who better to rate another state as "crazy" --- than a Californian?
-
How much is that toll in WV? Does it continue in Virginia?
-
No. The tolled portion of I-77 a.k.a. The West Virginia Turnpike is only on WV.

There is a little construction on Hwy 35, East if I-75. It isn't too bad. Once you get to Xenia you can "hammer down" (may be some repaving going on around Jackson, OH) until you cross the river into Mt Pleasant, WV. From there it's a scenic two lane running through the river bottom. I don't stay on Hwy 35 all the way to I-64. I turn right onto Hwy 34 in Winfield and pick up I-64 between Hurricane and Nitro. That last leg of Hwy 35 from Winfield to I-64 is a PITA, so I avoid it.
It's a good route. I'd use it, tolls or not. You'll see, by the amount of truck traffic, it is a popular stretch of asphalt. -
Yes lot of truck traffic stop at jackson, OH at the AA truckstop they have good food

Either that or REALLY hammer down and stop at Brintle's, Mt. Airy NC. Best cocount cream pie around, if they have any left!
