There are a few good agents but some real crooks too and Jacksonville is the worst of the lot.

I find it not as hard to find direct customers as people make it out, most think there just ant any truckers around one thing I always do is push that when they call me they get the owner and driver no calling them back they get a answer now!

I've had them tell me that before too, "click!"... I've also had them grumble and complain how they didn't have a truck (thank you very much for that valuable nugget in the course of our conversation friend lol). Just like a couple of weeks ago when Crum Logistics told me they didn't have a truck on the yard available that night. Now that's a small carrier. And you know what happened, his customer authorized the rate I dictated, muhahaha. Don't underestimate the non assets because they don't have trucks. CHR been in business over a 100 years. At times they've had assets now they don't. Those guys are the kings of moving freight for nuthin lol. But when any of them can't find a truck, they just can't, sucks to be them...

IMHO Iv found a trend with asset based brokers such as the big megas to be harder to get that good paying rate from. I think the reason for this is the following:
Landstar or other call or I call on a load that suits me. The negotiation starts but rarely now do I get to take a load for them as they are not as willing as they used to be to pay me what I want.
Iv worked out that they have so many lease operators running for around for $1.20 per mile that they can as easy deadhead somebody from another state and haul it cheaper than I will pick it up for as I simply won't run for $2.40 per mile! I believe this has always been the case but recently all these mega carriers have more lease operators than what they need and they are also better at planning every year that goes by, so it's less and less often that an unplanned (expedite) load comes up that they will pay my rate for.
The non asset based brokers don't have an overwhelming number of hungry, broke, lease operators chomping at the bit to run their ####'s off for them so they will usually be more within a realistic price range.
Thats just been my experience of late.
