Thats extremely cheap for a company flatbed driver. When I was a company driver, I wanted to make minimum $200 a day. I was able to do that at Swift. Went to a higher end company and started making between 275-325 a day for every day I ran. Anyways, Chinatown is right...you can get another job, no problem.

raise your right hand and repeat after me, "No Finance, NO romance."

I don't know I haven't tried any other type of trucking yet I was trying to stick this out but as the months progress my bills just keep piling up and getting deeper and deeper. So trust when I say I would like to just stick it out but if I keep staying with them I am going to end up in the poor house and I have been there before it sucks badly and I really don't want to return. So that's why I have been searching other option. I have talked to other truckers that has been at the company for anywhere from 5 to 15 years and they say that it seems every year their earnings go down little by little and they tell me to find another company and run away.

Actually I would be happy with 800 - 1000 a week. Which is my understanding what drivers new to trucking should make.

Will these companies hire me If I live in Ohio or will I have to relocate closer. I have been thinking about moving to Alabama anyways. I know Melton, TMC, and Maverick would hire me but I kinda like the idea of driving a bulk truck.

People take about companies like they are living organisms. They are just a piece of paper. All companies have people in them that have the ability to become A S S ho les. What you have to do is find a way to deal with them. Set standards for yourself and stick to them. Act like a professional and demand to be treated as such. That includes pay. Jerome B. Hunt was famous for saying he only had to make one penny a mile profit with all the trucks he had. Larger companies can undercut owner operators. But they can only do that if the drivers allow their wages to be cut.

When you are starting out, your insurance cost to the company are higher then those with experience have. You also burn more fuel and are harder on the equipment. Therefore it is proper to pay newbies less then those with miles behind them. But there is a limit to what you should take. 38 cent a mile is the least you should except. I have never worked for less then 45 cpm.

I am sure many will disagree but we should all want a bigger slice of the pie.

Thanks for the input that was very helpful because being new i am not sure what is acceptable. Anyways is that all miles because I had a company offer me .30 for all miles loaded, unloaded, or bobtailing. Is that good?

Is that Good? Only you can decide that. Have you given them a counter offer? Are you prepared to walk away if you ask them for .38 cpm to start and they tell you no?

I do not know what lanes the company you are looking at is in but I looked at today's rate out of Cincinnati, Ohio to Atlanta, GA and it is $2.11 per mile. So .30 seems awful cheap to me. If you are just using your first company to gain experience before moving on it might be worth it. Or if you are not in the country legally, then work cheap.

I would advise all newbies who are working for less then .40 cpm to park their trucks. But we no longer seem to be willing to act together. People actually are anti-union when unions built the middle class in this country. JMHO.....
