I believe the rule is there cannot be anything lower than the area the visor covers or anywhere in the area swept by the windshield wipers, however...
evd Thanks this. -
Possibly. CA and MN have a ton of restrictions. Both were illegal in CA until recently.
The GPS has to be mounted on the lower corner of the windshield (near the door). Put it in the lower center, and you can be ticketed. Stlvance can be ticketed for having his mounted too high.
The dash cam has to be in the upper center, where the rear view mirror would normally be. Fortunately, this is the optimal location for one. The pain is that you can't have the power wire hanging down...

I don't know if either is a stoppable offense by itself. However, you can certainly be cited during a DOT inspection, and DOT doesn't need a reason to do a roadside inspection.
Then again, there are states where you can get cited for having a "tuned up" CB or 10 meter rig in your truck without a ham radio license, but I have yet to hear anyone get hit with that one.evd Thanks this. -
I've had a net book wit ha 10" screen mounted on the dash above the toggles in my '98 T800 for 7 years (probably 10-15 inspections in NY, ON, QC). Once I had a NY DOT ask me if I was watching movies but other than that I have had not a single comment.

in the 70s was ticketed at little chute scale in wisc, for obstruction of vision. had one of those little waving hands in the rider side windshield, scale master told me he gave me a brake because my cb was also higher than 4 inches above the dash. those type of things have been going on for ever, now the enforcement officers complain drivers dont like them. there is a line between enforcement and harassment and a lot of officer cross that line in the name of safety. be safe out there

Thanks msjamie for the info but oddly enough i had both units mounted when truckee pulled me in the garage to share the donuts. Nothing said about either one. And as im not going back into that state anymore i guess its one of those officer discretion rules lol im sure other states have something similar but so far nothings been said about it in reading those rules the gps lower edge is higher then the lower edge of the sunvisor.
Might be why cali overlooked it. -
thanks guys ill be driving north east cost .
