To fellow truckers, for newer trucks, is there a power source in the sleeper to charge or hook up a inverter?

Most modern trucks have several of the cigarette lighter style DC outlets in the bunk. You can buy small inverters that plug into these outlets to power items that have an AC plug. But if you want to power items that require a lot of power (microwave ovens, large refrigerators, or coffee pots) you will need to buy a larger inverter and have it hard-wired to the trucks electrical system. I've never worked for Werner or Swift, so I don't know their policy on hard-wired inverters. Most companies that do allow them require that you have their shop install them (this is not a job for amatuers as you can cause severe damage to the electrical system if its done incorrectly). Also, if you get a truck that is equipped with a ThermoKing APU, a 1500 watt hard-wired inverter is part of the package.

Swift does not allow inverters, but will install a 300W inverter for a CPAP machine if you have sleep apnea.

Most use a cooler that plugs into the cigarette lighter socket.

Swift will let you get away with a small plug-in inverter.
I use the Cobra 400W. Plugged in to the 12V socket it outputs 150W. (that is the max for a 12V socket)

With werner.. they do not allow inverters... if you want to have a refrigerator, you can buy one and the shop will install it.. I have a refrigerator in the bunk area and have a small cooler by my seat for water and such hat I can get easilh while driving...

I have no need for an inverter.. as I can charge my phone, notebook, and such. With the power outlets...
