The today's truck drivers just do not like real trucks. And use any & every excuse to put them down.
When you start spoiling people, they get lazy.
I feel for them for they messed out on the good days of trucking. -
I too wish we were still the "knights off the road" but we have lost that in part off the actions off truckers, other part is a changed socieity.
So many best we leave this alone in this thread.Last edited: May 27, 2014

@ Tommytoomanybikes:
An I shift is NOT a automated manual. There is no way to convert a I shift to a stick.
You assume too much and know to little.
@ all those manual lovers
It appears you all confuse driving skills with shifting skills.
They are NOT the same!!!
The first you need whether you drive a car/truck/bike or even a pushbike.
Without that skill you have no bussiness on the roads.
The latter only makes a tough job easier and yes, safer.
Be safe.WitchingHour, wyldhorses, HotH2o and 1 other person Thank this. -
Oh, yeah... heavy and brush specs... since the term "real truck" keeps coming up, should I throw those into the mix, as well? -
I see it this way , if you do not learn to drive a stick at first what happens WHEN someone hands you the keys to one?

And no, I don't like the idea of green drivers running autos exclusively, but, in the grand scheme of things, it's really not my problem; the things I mentioned before - whether they can back up without tearing my hood off, whether they'll sideswipe me as I pass them, etc. - those are my problem, and those are the things which take a much higher priority over worrying about how their truck is shifted. -

As for lazy, that's one of things I wanted to believe, as well, but the problem is that I'm just not seeing anything to help me believe it. I see double wide drivers, I see these ############# who tie up fuel lanes by parking in them, I see these funkmaster truck drivers you remember not for their face, but for their odor, I see drivers throwing trash/piss bottles/#### bags/etc. in parking lots.... driving a manual doesn't keep them from doing this. Those things I just listed to me seem to be the result of laziness, and yet, shifting gears doesn't prevent it from happening.HotH2o, Stile, 77smartin and 1 other person Thank this.
