You just had the double down on that one, didn't you? Some people are just destined to continually show their ### to the rest of the world, I suppose.

By the way, I've never driven an auto. And you probably don't want to talk about what I have driven, because some people will be eating their words after their "real truck" statements.

I could've used either. As is, I chose the one I did. Either way, doesn't really matter.
And I did say I wasn't interested in keeping up the discussion, but I caught myself in a lie. On the laziness bit, share your thought on that?

As an O/O looking to add trucks and drivers down the road I can tell you this. If a driver applied to drive my trucks and his past experience was driving for swift, he will automatically(pun intended) be disqualified based on what I've learned here today. He will not possess the basic skills necessary to drive my trucks and I'm not in the teaching profession. Those are skills he should've learned during his internship at swift and perfected there. I'm looking to hire EXPERIENCED drivers only and like it or not that means not only knowing how to shift a #### truck but do so efficiently without tearing up my gears or burning up my clutch. Simple as that. Still think swift is doing them any favors?

I mean, this logic of yours that manual vs. auto is the difference between a driver who isn't lazy and who is, while manual drivers are still loading up their trucks with piss bottles, throwing trash on the ground, letting themselves and their trucks get so foul that you never know how they're able to tolerate it, etc. I work for a company which runs manuals exclusively (to the best of my knowledge.. there are rumors about a couple autos in the fleet, but I've never seen one), yet I'm seeing the same thing I described on a daily basis. So, I'm not really seeing where driving a manual is the difference between being lazy and not being lazy. Nor would I think that, say, a flatbedder for Maverick is lazy compared to a guy who drives a manual on a drop-and-hook, no-touch account. I'm just trying to understand where you're coming from with the "automatic = laziness" notion.

My company hauls bulk propane and due to a shortage of trailers we were forced to buy an older smooth bore rig. I had the pleasure of driving our automatic Volvo with said trailer and I honestly hope it is something I never, ever, have to do again. That poor transmission didn't know whether to up shift or down shift and finally just decided not to shift at all. It sat a the dealer for awhile until they could find somebody to fix it. Garbage.

Read the OP's thread. One less thing he has to learn or worry about. Something along those lines. This is also why if you take the road test in an automatic it is listed as a restriction on your license. There's a learning curve involved in driving a manual transmission. Swift drivers will lack the experience necessary to compete for better jobs.
