Does anyone know anything good or bad about Shaffer trucking or Robert Bearden Trucking ? I have an application in with both but can't make up my mind. Thanks.

I drive for Crete (Shaffer) dry van, Shaffer is the Refer division. I personaly would recommend Shaffer! That is based on driving for Crete, but they operate basicily the same. They pay good and respect the driver. Good Luck in your decision, I dont know about the other carrier you mentioned.

I just heard from Shaffer yesterday afternoon. They approved my application, but since I haven't been in a truck for over a year they want me to train with someone for 3 weeks. I have over 20 years exp. and I owned my own trucking company for 4 years, needless to say I won't be wasting my time with Shaffer.

I'd suggest you not be so hasty. Read the threads and while you will find a couple of problems with the Acklie companies including Shaffer, for the most part they are part of the top tier of trucking outfit in the country. Don't let your ego make you pass up a good opportunity.
I've been on a break from trucking since last summer (after over 12 years)and may well have to do the same thing when I return to Crete in June, but hey, at 45+ cents per mile, great bennies and the opportunity for some good dedicated fleets, I'd be nutz to walk away unless I was 100% sure someone else had a better offer and was equally reliable.
