If that little black box makes an error and it will no doubt do so that will be the situation I'm talking about.
If that little box and it's strict guidelines causes a driver harm such as stop at an unsafe location when he could have went just a little further to a safer location cause him harm that's what I'm talking about. In the end we are in control as it stands right now but with the box that will all but disappear.

Let me tell you guys this, I have spoken to many drivers over the cb and they are either ignorant of the pending laws coming to a truck nearness them and are angry as H E LLLL when I told them that yes the government can force them to have cameras in trucks yes they can force them to turn their trucks down yes they can force the e logs down their throats yes they can and will do this and more to come by the end of the year and over the next five years.
This can be built upon and move us to unite but you guys must spread the word and tell them who's responsible for this so they can take action NOW!!!
The large carriers along with Bill Graves and the American Trucking Association the members of Congress and the Senate are all behind this because of the bribes they took from those groups.
The drivers seem to be in favor of a strike but because they just don't know all the facts they must be told the truth by all of us not just me and my little radio. Enough phone calls and enough noise made within our industry aimed at those responsible will no doubt get someone's attention.

I didn't realize eLogs restricted your personal freedom and took away your common sense. When I was doing orientation I'd tell all my drivers that if they were delivering in a bad neighborhood, and I'd usually use Chicago Heights as my reference, that if they emptied(and or loaded) after they were out of hours to just go ahead and drive somewhere safe. Then I'd just put it out there to not try that in say LeMars, IA because while the amish look scary and make for creepiness in horror movies there is actually very little to be afraid of from them.

the little black box does NOT do the thinking for the driver, and only a moron will let it. It only records the truck movements, which can also be used to defend a driver from bogus and wrong tickets and law suits... have had personal experience with that, and won.

Those that want to blame EOBR's do not think for themselves, but have the idea that the government is the solution... The government was created to serve the people, not the people to serve the government.

the eobr's do the thinking for the driver

they tell the driver when to drive when to take a 30min break when to go to bed

they also tell the dispatcher when to wake up the driver to get another load

this is what ex-paper loggers who have switched to elogs say. they no longer have to THINK to do their logs, the computer does it for them

so much for personal resonsibility, huh?

Eobr's do make my job easier, log in, puts me on duty not driving...
do my pre trip, get my load, and head out... switches me to driving....
arrive at well, pull brakes, puts me on duty... I don't have to do a thing....
do my testing, load the oil, finish paperwork....
push brakes in and leave, again the box switches me to driving...
arrive at unload, pull brakes, puts me back on duty....

gives me a count down timer for the 8 hour break... so that I can decide where I am going to eat lunch... at the lac, or at the next well....

    repeat...

arrive at terminal, pull brakes, do post trip, verify logs, go off duty, and I am done for the day... all the location tags are done for me, the graph shows what I did for the day, and I was legal all day long...

It does not do the thinking for me, but gives me the information I need, quickly and easily, to make decisions about my day..

That's the main thing people are not seeing is that the eobr doesn't make you do anything, it just records what you do. That's it. It gives you information and records what you do. No more no less.
It would be the equivalent of paying a personal assistant to fill out your logbook for you while you go about your day and give you hourly updates on how many hours you have left so you can plan your day. Like how some guys use a gps just for miles and arrival times. Same thing here.

    matt

the stupid things screams at you "you are in violation, you are in violation" and at times, you could be doing things completely innocent (like moving from one side of the parking lot to the other)

and to be honest, it is nothing short of a rat, and i know many hear like being rats, but i should have the option of wanting a rat in my truck or not
