end dump blow out while strait up in the air SCARY!!!!!

Had a tire blow I was standing next to at the petro in Hammond, LA. It was early in the morning, but I was wide awake after that...

 

And the back of your pants had a distinct bulge, that smelled very badly, afterwards

 

Here in California we run transfers and what we call lowsides. Those are the frameless end dumps. Transfers are kind of a pin in the ### but are stable. Lowside are real run when your dumping boulders and get them rocking from side to side. Turned two over in my career. Just kind of a right of passage

 

You'll have that on them bigger jobs...

 

48' MAC frameless end dump with bauxite. Little wet. Not bad. Froze in the nose overnight. Wind kicked on solid, flat, level ground at dump site at 5 AM and . . . TIMBER! Right onto the right side. Gentle as popping a pimple. Thank God I had my seatbelt on or it'd have thrown me like a rag doll into the inside of the passenger door right as it was hitting the ground. I popped my belt, slid down to stand on the passenger door, kicked out the front glass on that side and stopped getting outta Dodge about 100 yards away. Front end loader driver just sitting in his seat shaking his head. Like I messed up or something.

I was dumping a load of shale when the trailer started to go over. I hit the lever and dropped it down. The ram was ruined, but that was it. If it wasn't for a witness to the event, I would have lost my job. The ram was a lot cheaper than the alternative.

 

Yeah. Got that a lot at stock piles too. They want the load "here" and that's not level at all. I dump it "there" where it is close but level. "Hey! You supposed to put it over there." "It ain't level. Level it and I'll dump it there." "Now I gotta move it!" "That's why they gave you a front end loader." I'm glad to be outta the dump game.

 

Excellent point, Aminal. I did a lot of dump truck work, and some(not all) of these operators are the laziest people around. If someone told me to dump somewhere, and I didn't think it was safe, I'd go to where I thought it was safe, raised the box, and let 'er go, even if an operator was screaming. If I got kicked off a job, that was fine by me. If the truck went over, and I've seen it happen, the operators are the first ones to call you an idiot, even though they told you where to dump.

 

Good operators should have your loading and dumping sites looking like a parking lot smoove. Nothing like hauling bones/boulders and they coming rolling out and 2 of them hang. Yee-haw. One thing I learned from flopping a tub..........NEVER EVER have any equipment ect. within the crash zone (50ft) if there's a mishap.
