what brand of tires do you have on your steers and what kind of mileage do you get

Run Toyos all position all the way around on the tractor because that is what my tire man sells. I put 10,000 miles or so on the drives and move them to the steers. This seems to get them used to running flat in a straight line and eliminates radial roll, cupping etc..

 

They are shoeing my ride tomorrow. I chose Michelin XZA3 for the steers and XDA5 on the drives. They ran about 20 more than Bridgestones and from what I was told and read they should run around 200K or more on the drives and 150K for the steers. Time will tell.

 

I have it budgeted at this time to reshoe everything once a year. Take off's with good tread will bring decent trade value or resale if you know who is looking when you are rady to shoe. I figure that I will change tires when it is convenient to me not when I get a blow out etc. cause that usually happens at the worst possible times. Second reason is safety. I know doing it like this will cost a little more up front but when it is 2 am and you are in the middle of BFE and the hook is 2 hours drive away, the cost doesn't look so bad then.... I would rather not be in that position if I can help it.

 

My last set of steers were yokohamas. The worst steer tire I have ever had. They did not last that long and they were losing chinks out of the tread. The worst part is that my steer axle is always 11,460 bobtail loaded anything. I have had good luck with toyos before and some cheap tires surprisingly.

 

Cuz I have been super pleased with the Yokohama RY617's (over 100K and still good meat) I have on the steer axle and I run Continental HSR's (almost 200K) on the trl and I am also happy with their performance especially since I have a spread axle.

 

if money allows I will only rn Michelin or bridgstone steers. Running the ster on the drive and then moving it up is an old time trick. it seats them better and also if it doesn't blow in the first 10k miles chances are it isn't going to and it's safe to run up front. (old cabover concerns)
