Hi rank, why bother, the 359 has class up the ying yang, and it's like driving a classic car, it's cool. Used to see so many, but now I only know of 1 company in Wis. that still runs them, Randy O'Keefe trucking ,out of Wis. Rapids. I've seen newer trucks with them, but I believe the drivers refuse to get out of them. And to think, I sold my '72 small window for $22.5 back in '94. Still haven't stopped kicking myself for that one.
OK haters, here's some red meat for you...

Just to prove I can LOL. Actually, I think it won't be that hard to beat the other guys in fuel mileage. I doubt if I can beat my average in my trusty little M11 though.

Yeah but who knew back then that things would go the way they have?
Funny story: My father bought a 100 acre farm for $5,000 in the late '50's. A few years later he sold the house for $5,000. 35 years later he bought the house back for $100,000. LOL. -
I never got where the fact of driving a hooded truck means your making no money came from? I do quite well in my a model
-
Could you make more with aero? Some applications the truck aerodynamics might might help????
-
It doesn't say much for everyone else when the most sensible post in the whole thread comes from a guy who ran over a rock so big, it nearly ripped the whole underside off his truck
.
Fwiw, I agree with everything he said. -
Huh?

Hmmmm, well....
Me and another one of our drivers, same load, same trailers, same drivetrain and motor, same speed, same routing.
12'6" wide, 14' tall, @90k lbs. From Ca to Pa, always within 5 gallons of each other at fill ups.
Problem is (according to some), is that I run a square nose Western Star 4900EX and he was in his Crapcadia.
Go pull a van and let Prime etc tell you how to "make money" by getting 8mpg, or pull the bigger stuff where it doesn't make a single ounce of difference. Dont ASSume that everyone with a hood doesn't make the same as the aero trucks etc.
Next.....
MartinJoetro and The Challenger Thank this. -
Not enough to justify a truck payment and not driving a truck I enjoy. Driving a Volvo or freightliner would wear me out on wat trips i do make, just because I can't stand driving or working on them.

Pleased to see that KW is sitting on a sterling frame

Makes me feel that much better about loving my good ole sterling! On a technicality, that KW should be classified in the "exotic" category since it sits on a Sterling frame.
Off topic- my personal opinion is the 379 rides the best, after being in a handful of different trucks all along the roads in the northeast. I use to put my sterling at the bottom of the list, till recently I slid my fifth wheel back 4 notches (now all the way back) and it rides ALMOST as excellent as the 379 I rode in. An air ride front axle and I'll have the ride of a Cadillac.
Now back to that KW... if PRICE was no option and I had NO bills to pay, I would go out and buy a 96 W900 (preferably one stretched to a 300" WB) with the Mechanical Cat and an 18 spd. My dream truck. However... if that KW is on a sterling frame... well I may have to create a new dream lol!
