Thanks! I appreciate that. I'm usually the last person to leave his comfort zone. Its not easy, but you have take a chance here and there if you want to move forward. I get tired of being stagnant. I'm a good learner and wish earlier in my life I took more initiative. Funny how when your younger you feel like you have forever. You hit your high 30's and the grays start showing. The clock feels like its ticking away double time with me lately.

Thanks brother. I do really appreciate your support. You can never have too much and we all have a cross to bear. I was a little reluctant to post, but I'm glad I did. I can't afford to be making bad decisions anymore. I figure you guys are the best resource considering all the experience pooled together on this site. I'm very thankful for those who have taken the time to respond!

Well. After careful consideration of my situation, (financial, experience, stress of unfamiliarity), I decided swift was right here in phoenix. They are about 25 minutes from me. I'm licensed already so the recruiter said it just a matter of showing that I can drive the truck and get through 3 days of orientation and I could be on the road with a trainer. This was the last thing I ever wanted to do. I'm dealing with a lot of emotional stresses that of course involve a woman I partially moved out here for. My money won't last forever and even though my diesel does pretty good on fuel, i can't drive all over creation waiting for the perfect job. I can commute everyday to swift and at least come home to a bed. No hotels, other dudes in my room or shuttles to work. Lol....If I need more training on the course I'll have it. In the end, it may not be working a hazmat job in one of the HIGH demand locations I'd like to be working 70 hours at, but it will be work. It will be experience for when I do apply for an oil field job I'll have more marketable experience. The recruiter quoted 450 a week for I wanna say 4 weeks and then 500 for the final two?? ...but he also said if I did well the trainer could cut me loose as early as 4. Other thing to note. I could be training with a regional, otr, or dedicated trainer. I thought for sure it was 6 weeks otr. In guess I'll find out Monday. Thanks again everyone!

Good luck to you and Swift isn't that bad. Lots of people talk BS who've never worked there. I never have, but I've known plenty who got good experience over there and even stayed.

I second the notion about swift. They are global and the largest....ie the largest target. Keep your head in the game, do your time and move on a better driver with more experience if it becomes necessary. Good luck friend....

Hey guys! Schneider called as well today. I've yet to call them back. Would anyone have a preferance for Schneider, and why?

Scrap that. Schneider recruiter consulted I touch base with western express for a refresher because I don't have much experience on the road. I don't know how westernx is. I'd like to get on the road as quick as I can. Seems swift will throw me into the fire sooner.

So I'm kind of creeping on all these threads, looking for hazmat jobs in Austin specifically. My husband has hauled fuel for 9 years in CA and now in Denver and we're looking to move to Austin to help out my parents. Are there crude jobs there, or are they all farther out? He's up for anything and his record is clean- we're just having a hard time finding jobs (online) that pay 65k+ and are out of Austin. We were looking for Sunoco, HD5 and some of the companies that you've listed above. I would LOVE any information you might have.
