Community colleges can be as low as the $2500 range, You can also look into beverage companies. I got on one and I'm doing 40k, I came with my lic but most of the guys got their through the company. Descent work and I'm home every night. Gonna ride out a year here than go to something that pays better.

Get an oilfield job. They will send you to get your CDL and you won't be some mega-corporations' indentured servant.

If you don't want oilfield work for some reason, get a second job and save up for the school yourself. I know a guy doing that now. He works his regular 40 hours, and then puts in 30 hours a week driving a cab. He is actually making pretty good money and says he will reach is savings goal faster then he had imagined. It is working out well because he is getting the feel for long hours, and the cabbie thing gives him time for some soul searching to decide if he is really making the right choices for his future.

The whole "paid training" thing through the mega's just seems to be a crapshoot at best. This forum is full of sob stories about failed attempts at those programs. Drive your own future. Get a second job, pay for the training yourself. You are going to face many hurdles in this business. Entering "debt free" just may be the advantage that makes you one of the successful drivers.

here is a idea, if you have a fedex freight in your town check to see if they need a dock hand, stay there a six months to a year and ask to be a driver and they will send you to there school. and make about 55 to 80.000 yr. i seen three young 22 yr olds here do it and there making great money, just giving u a somthing to think about. also many other ltl do the same.

I have to disagree with everyone telling him to get a degree in business. That's a complete waste of time IMO unless you are either good at being a huge brown nose to get ahead in the business world and/or you enjoy throwing other people under the bus to cover your own ###. Bottom line is generic business degrees are worthless if you are going to be honorable and honest about things.

Better off getting a technical degree like computer science, that way all of these business morons have to beg for your help to fix the computer they screwed up by getting viruses surfing the porn websites at work. Either that or get into trades because every jerk in the country and their brother are getting generic college degrees nowadays

Agreed, these days a generic business degree is about as useful as a third tit - at least at the undergrad level. Best to stick to STEM.

Not sure about Central or Prime , but Knight was ok when I was there . Lot of trainers & you can be home weekly . They also have daily pay , if the bills are signed on Monday morning & you transFlo them on Monday , you could get paid for that load on Tuesday , latest Wednesday ! I am with most the others , listen to your dad ! I told my son NEVER be a TRUCKER , he listened & makes more money doing Heating & AC work . Good luck !

Who says you make too much for FAFSA? Income is not a restriction. Neither is your credit. They will get their money one way or another. :)

The average household income is like $51K so it's not like you are too rich to qualify.

My mom is talking over not to drive, go for another career training and find a job sitting in the office. Heck no, I already have my diesel mechanic diploma and certificates and getting my cdl. Most big companies may force you to sign a 1 year contract. Does anyone know about Class 1 Transport near Lewistown, PA. Clean and new looking KWs, run on curtin flats, dry van, and reeder.

Income is a factor for sure. After filling out Fafsa you get an EFC and anything over zero subtracts from your total aid package. Each school structures an aid package to meet COLA and tuition requirements, so if the EFC is very high (which it will be at the 50k/year level), it will make paying for school impossible. I worked as a Financial Aid counselor while going to school...

If i was in your shoes i would try to borrow the money on a credit card. This way when i get my license i can go to any company as opposed to being required to slave away for the carrier that trained me with #### pay and #### loads.
